pauldy Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) ..for multiple airports and bases that have at least two runways. It's just impractical that there's a runway adjacent to my assigned ramp.. only to be directed by the ATC to take off or land at much further runway. e.g. in Dhafra ,I'm at the northern area of the airbase, but the ATC would always assign me to the much further Runway 13R / 31L Edited April 1, 2023 by pauldy [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Raviar Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) If the assigned runway is base on real world proccedure of Al Dhafra, then this is correct. The active runway should be choosed base on Wind/CrossWind heading Edited April 3, 2023 by Raviar 1
cfrag Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) IRL you can't choose the runway from ATC, it's assigned to you by tower. Luckily, we have a game, and usually there's no traffic, so we should be able to choose a runway as a QoL game feature. Or we could simply ignore tower, and land where we prefer. My impression is that currently, DCS always assigns the runway that coincides with the airfield's location: you'll notice that each airfield, when invoking Airbase.getPoint(theAirfield), returns a point on the numbers of one (and only one) runway, and it's always the same runway. It's that runway that gets assigned to you, even if winds would indicate a different one that would be better suited. So, since tower seemingly doesn't currently know what they are doing, you might as well ignore them and use the runway that's best for you Edited April 3, 2023 by cfrag 1

Lace Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 ATC is undergoing a complete rework AIUI. At the moment I just operate under strict radio-silence EMCON and follow published procedures/SOPs as best I can, so I don't have to deal with it in its current state. Laptop Pilot. Alienware X17, i9 11980HK 5.0GHz, 16GB RTX 3080, 64GB DDR4 3200MHz, 2x2TB NVMe SSD. 2x TM Warthog, Hornet grip, Virpil CM2 & TPR pedals, Virpil collective, Cougar throttle, Viper ICP & MFDs, pit WIP (XBox360 when traveling). Quest 3S. Wishlist: Tornado, Jaguar, Buccaneer, F-117 and F-111.
joey45 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Ignore the ATC until the new. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. pauldy Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 I know very well i can just ignore the ATC, but then this becomes a nuisance when i fly with AI wingman.. ofc they will religiously follow what the AI ATC dictates even if it takes them like 10 minutes or more just to reach that active runway.. I know this isnt a bug but more of a limitation. Its just counter intuitive there's a runway in front of you and your instead assigned to another one like 5kms from your ramp. Pretty much why i placed this as wishlist. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
