Hammer3246 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) I have the G2 but hate the tight sweet spot. Is there something better with more "sweet spot" and not a lot of hassle? Edited April 3, 2023 by Hammer3246 13900KF NVD4090 32RAM G2
Willie Nelson Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I would be keeping my eye on the Pimax Crystal, all indications so far are that it is likely to be the best option out there provided you have the gear to run it. The level of whinging that goes on about the company, albeit well behing their own timetables, is directly proportional to the high expectation that many of us have in them to deliver a very high end product. Can't guaruntee anything at all but I think given how close they now are to release, you would be crazy not to give some more reviews a look. There's already a few reviews available though. See what you think 1 i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. HP Reverb.
Dragon1-1 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I'm afraid Pimax doesn't really qualify as "not a lot of hassle". From what I heard, getting them to work with DCS is a pain. 1
WipeUout Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I disagree, Pimax is not a plug and play but no worse than G2 and the extra WMR layer and miriad of possible settings. Speaking from experience. The state of things in VR is that there is no standard, every manufacturer have their own approach and it takes time and effort to optimize any HMD nowaday. There is also the PC in the equation, which have endless combination of hardware and requires tweeking and testing to get the best VR results possible. If it is a bigger sweet spot you want, then Pimax has that. Unfotunately, it might be difficult to get one, except the refurbished units on pimax.com. Cost is also something to consider because Pimax cost significantly more than a G2 considering you need a lighthouse and maybe controlers. 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9800X3D, RTX 4090, 96GB DDR 5, MSI Tomahawk 870E, Crucial 2TB x 2, TM WARTHOG COMBO + PENDULAR RUDDER PEDALS, THE AMAZING PIMAX 8K X, Sony 5.1 Spks+SubW | DCS, A-10C_II, AH-64D, F-14/15E/16/18, F-86F, AV-8B, M-2000C, SA342, Huey, Spitfire, FC3.
jparker36 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) Quest Pro if you're ok giving up absolute top end resolution for near-perfect edge to edge clarity. Edited April 3, 2023 by jparker36 1

Pancake lenses gives edge to edge clarity. Light weight. 2160x2160 resolution per eye, same as G2. But you need a powerful PC to run it well. The Quest Pro has lower resolution and costs 3-4 times as much - depending on your country. Dave317 Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 I'm thinking about replacing my ageing G1. I was going to go for a G2 but the pico4 seems a bit of a no brainer at the minute. Do they need more powerful hardware than the G2 would?

I see them on Aliexpress, it's a global version that's quite a bit cheaper. Edited April 8, 2023 by Hammer3246 1 13900KF NVD4090 32RAM G2

In Norway Quest Pro is over 13.000, and Pico 4 about 5000. Some time ago the Quest Pro was over 18.000 and Pico 4 just over 4000… so.. it changes .
