I7 4790K and multithreading

Recommended Posts

Just gone from stable version back to OB in anticipation of Normandy 2 release and as a result, have initiated multithreading.

It is clear that, although I have a hardly noticeable increase in frames, I am in fact well GPU bound now (2080TI) and am looking for a new card for my rig (i9 9900K at 4.8ghz/ 64GB RAM).  It has to be said that I suffer few issues apart from tight turns while taxying on the ground and looking over the wings at less than 500ft (Syria, PG, marianas and Channel maps).

I have an older PC that was also scratch built probably around 6 years ago, just laying around with a watercooled I7 4790K running 4.2ghz/ 32GB 2x 16GB DDR3  RAM and no GPU.

With multithreading enabled, would my PC supply the 2080TI adequately enough for VR (reverb)?.  Before, it was very adequate for the Oculus Rift with the 2080ti and I would guess DCS 2.2.

I have seen on the net that the 4790k running multithreaded on cinebench scoring 1982 and the 9900k on single core scoring 1342.   All greek to me.  How will this performance score cross over into the real world of crunching DCS code?

I have a notion of connecting the two PCs and buying additional multicrew modules so friends and family can ride along.

I have a 4790K + 32 gb ram + 3060ti running at 4K.

CPU is running at 40 - 60% with some spikes up to around 70%, gpu is running always at 99%.

With MT i saw definitely some fps improvement.

But i don't know how useful all these kind of (very generic) informations are for you  since i'm playing 2D only (i don't have VR).

I run a 4790k with 16 gb ram and a 1080 with a rift s. Since MT was introduced i can play DCS again on almost all maps, marianas still has the worst performance for me overall.

My overall settings are pretty low, but my overall experience is quite smooth. VR shoud be possible but it really depends what you are looking for. Just for an explanation, so you can understand my point of view a bit. I like to have good performance over graphics, as long as i played 2d i was always looking to be at 58+ fps all the time, everything beneath was noticeable stutter for me. I can live with the flashing textures without any AA at all as long as i get my 40+ fps with the rift s.

Care showing us your ingame settings? I have a second PC with 4790k but it is always stuterring even with MT and medium low settings on Caucasus.

Obsessed with FM's

Thanks for your input guys.

I will be installing a msi 4080 suprim x into my main rig at the weekend and in the fullness of time, putting my 2080ti into my old rig.  Of course I will report back on my findings.
