Collision of refueling basket of IL-76M maybe somewhat smaller than supposed to be?

When I approach IL-76M's refueling basket poorly, my Su-33's refuelling probe went through a basket clearly. When I contact IL-76M very nicely and gently, a probe was connected as usual. I just need more practice for sure but I feel the collision of a basket of IL-76 is somewhat smaller than the visual model. That problem does not appear on pairs of F-14B and any tankers at least.

I have not tested IL-76M specifically but the basket has no collision if you're on the wrong side or you're not in the confirmed (by the tanker crew) pre-contact state.

You meant a wrong side of echelon? Is the left side always for a leader? If so, that was my problem. thanks for info!

Yes, if there are two baskets and you're alone - go to the left one. If the AI is also approaching the tanker - go to the right one.
