Vekkinho Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) In case of a need many of those 70% would turn flyable... We have similar situation here in Croatia, we have like 36 of MiG-21bis birds but only few of them can fly ATM (IIRC 6) and are used in training/testing purposes only. Remaining fleet is used for spare parts but 30% of them (10) are perfectly capable of getting airborne within 24hrs in case of a need! Other 10 airframes need only minor tune up (new tires, hydraulic fluid change) and 10 of them are used for spares or alternates! I believe such is the case with russian MiGs too! Guest VolkVoland Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 (edited) It makes you wonder what would happen if Russia ever decided to use force of arms/defend territory against attacks from a stronger power, instead of bullying its smaller former member states into submission. Actually history speaks for it self; one only has to be aware of the difference between history and propaganda. What is this “bullying” you speak of? It’s Russia’s back yard, and “neighborly relations” is simply a matter of regular policy. Regardless of what happened politically for to spark the conflict in Georgia, seeing that Russia is so large I think the Georgian's did their best in defending against the "steamroller" that was the Russian Army. I thought that the Russian's would have advanced a lot quicker than they did. That’s a simple one, PLENTY of very detailed information in readily available, down to the details, and the fact that only parts of the Russian 58th Army (which is equipped with obsolete Soviet era weaponry) managed to completely destroy NATO trained and equipped Georgian force of 70 thousand, speaks volumes. Advance was halted in order to prevent further escalation of the conflict, even though Tbilisi was ready to fall. By the way, how did the Red's get so much armour into Georgia so quickly? I mean the MBT's would have needed to be moved in on transports through the tunnel because the tunnel is long the engines in the MBT's would have over-heated in the hot summer weather, not to mention the tunnel is only single file... yet they managed to have a fully armed force ready to go in quickly with all the armour moving in Gerogia/SO within' hours (if they weren't expecting it surely it would take about 12 hours to begin preperations to move in. My personal opinion is that it was a set up, and that armour was already present inside Gerogia/South Ossetia before the Georgian's opened up. This would explain why the Russian's were so keen to shoot down Gerogian UAV's, which they did quite a bit, in the weeks leading up to the conflict. Opinions are fun and all, but getting to know factual information is better and more productive. Who are the “Red’s” by the way? It’s kind of like calling German army regulars “Nazis”, and I don’t think they’d like it very much… Anyway, the armour was a part of the 58th which was regularly stationed in the region, nothing spectacular there. Saakashvili is a US puppet, he grew up and whent to college in US, so no surprise there. US was (is?) in complete control of entire Georgian political/economic system, so no wonder Russian 58th Army was stationed near by. Other simple and in no way “mysterious” stuff, Israeli Heron UAVs were shot down because they were marking the positions of 58th Army for rocket/artillery strikes, so down they went. In conclusion, if securing borders and the lives of your citizens from military aggression of foreign forces is “bullying”, then defending your self and your family from a bunch of street thugs is “mean”. As to 70% of Fulcrums not fit for duty, what an absolute coincidence that at the very same time MiG announced financial troubles and immediately got bailed out by a massive government grant, and to top it off got advances on brand new orders for MiG-35s. What an odd coincidence… Looks like those 70% are on the line to be replaced with fresh MiG-35 orders, while the “write offs” will be overhauled, upgraded and sold to other countries to offset the bill, and naturally in due time it’ll all make sense for the tax payers. Just my 2cents, keep the change :) Edited February 16, 2009 by VolkVoland typo
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 It makes you wonder what would happen if Russia ever decided to use force of arms/defend territory against attacks from a stronger power, ...Stop wondering. Nobody dares to attack Russia due to Russian ability to hit any point on earth in 20-30 minutes. And that is with nuclear war heads. ... instead of bullying its smaller former member states into submission. What is your government military forces doing in Kosovo and Metohija? Against UN resolution 1244 and Kumanovo agreement. Russia is learning from "advanced democracies" and doing the same. Next is with other large and powerful countries, they also will follow the lead of your government and send their armies to take other countries territories. Is this all good? Of course not. 1 Thermaltake Kandalf LCS | Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R | Etasis ET750 (850W Max) | i7-920 OC to 4.0 GHz | Gigabyte HD5850 | OCZ Gold 6GB DDR3 2000 | 2 X 30GB OCZ Vertex SSD in RAID 0 | ASUS VW266H 25.5" | LG Blue Ray 10X burner | TIR 5 | Saitek X-52 Pro | Logitech G930 | Saitek Pro flight rudder pedals | Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Acedy Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Okay fellas, Groove already warned you twice to get back on topic and stop the disputes about (past or present) politics. Unfortunately this didn't help so it is time to close this thread. I may refer you to forum rule 1.7. If you want to continue this discussion I am sure you can find plenty of other boards to do so.
