Hello,

we tried to set up a mission to fly online. But there is no way to find the server. We have used the open beta and the stable version, with 3 different computer. And 3 different WiFi. One a public network and the other 2 we used mobile network. We turned of the firewall completely. Connecting true direct IP didn't work. Google brings up the same problem a hundred times, but no solution. After 7 hours we a close to give up. Does anyone know a solution? Thanks in advance

Were you both on the exact same version of DCS at the time?

One runs the MP mission - starts the server that way - make it public and the other tries to refresh the list and connect with the given name/IP/port.

Here's a basic guide based on older version:

That's all theory - I don't run servers myself. You can also try with dedicated server.

To me, this sounds like a NAT problem, to be precise, the server likely don't have an official IPv4 WAN Address but one from a CGN ( Carrier Grade Network ).

I am not sure if DCS fully supports IPv6 as of now but I do know that if you have a chance to run WireGuard VPN ( Fritz!Box 7.50ver and later do for example ) on IPv6

and use that to connect. That's how I solve such problems with SmartHome's that have the same NATed IPv4 but can run WireGuard on their Routers.

Tell us one of your recent IP's and we can tell. CGN IP's are listed on the web.

if you do speak german, go here:  wieistmeineip.de  and do the test and post that screenshot here.

*the server machine needs to do this, a client works fine on a NATed network/IP, just server's do NOT.

i had a similar problem with my connection

the tpic is in german but google translate might help.

i couldnt set up a server, as my provider did not establish the needed full fledged IPv4, but a DSLite-tunnel version.
My mates provider did the opposite and it worked all good.

I see. We had no access to the router. We tried to play in a hotel. Frustrating, we took our computer and hardware with us on a tour to show the simulation our friends. Hoping too win them for the game. But it looks like my friend is to frustratet to play again.

Your situation is not uncommon. Many are behind a Router they cannot control, either in a Hotel, Campus, etc. or your ISP has just simply put you in a big CGN to save some precious IPv4 addresses, there are only 2 *32 of them, that's way too few to give one to every device on the internet, that's why ISP's are slowly moving to IPv6, DS-Lite IPv4 and all that to circumvent that problem "somehow".

It's ok if you are a standard home user, use Teamviewer too, play games on the net, all that works without restrictions.

The situation is only bad if you want to offer a service, aka be a server for whatever service you want to provide. It's Ports and IPs that matter here, nothing else and you got control over none in that scenario. End of Game.

You either need full IPv6 support, top to bottom - or ask your ISP if you can have a "real" IPv4 that is not in a NATed network or CGN as those called, cell phones are usually in a big CGN .

As of my knowledge, ED does not yet support IPv6 fully, nor do many many many other big websites and companies and services, so your biggest chance to politely ask for a true IPv4, one of those 2 *32 !!

I am glad I have a static IPv4

Thanks BitMaster for your explanation.

We tried yesterday again with no luck over mobile Internet. The big disappointment is, that we have 6 people who are rally interested on the game. But they are no computer nerds. After seeing us working a half an hour to start a online mission, they lost the interest. Really disappointing, we brought all our equipment over hundreds of km to our working site...

Neither your fault for not knowing nor DCS. But you could've tested it before. Even if you can't run your own server you could've jump together on any public server.
