The intended logic for AI wingmen is assumed to be:

  • After gear up, match the light configuration of the lead aircraft

It does this ^ with the exception of the anti-collision lights.*

Recreation steps:

  1. Cold & Dark start A-10C II with at least 1 AI wingman in your flight
  2. Configure lights for taxi and taxi
  3. At any point pre-takeoff, flip your anti-collision lights on
  4. (Wingman turns their anti-coll lights on)
  5. Takeoff, clean up the aircraft, have the wingman rejoin when you level off
  6. Turn off lights (middle pinky switch position),
  7. Turn off the anti-collision lights on the light panel
  8. Notice that the wingman turns off the Nav lights, but the anti-collision lights stay on

I am assuming this isn't just an A-10 issue, but I can only speak for the module I own. Its especially immersion breaking on night missions where you are fencing in and trying to go to the IP covertly, but your wingman is having a disco rave at your 3 o'clock.

*I'm not actually sure of this, ED should look through the lights logic to ensure that the entire external light configuration of the aircraft is considered in order for this bug to be called "fixed".

Edit: This is a 10 year problem, can it be looked at?

Bump.

I notice this behavior on the F-16 as well. Even on the included single mission "Night Life", every other flight has their external lights off in the AO, but my wingman keeps his strobe on no l matter how I adjust my lights.

@jstnj This should be implemented with the next OB update (exception made for the AI Tomcat pilots, who don't copy any external light at the moment - issue reported).

There will be one limitation: all fancy beacon settings won't be synced (AH-64 white beacon won't be copied, F-16/JF-17 "2", "3, "4"... beacon settings either, F/A-18C dim beacon setting...).
