Stratos Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Is possible somehow to be a CAS helo pilot doing my own mission and get requested to recover Shoot Down AI pilots If one ejects? Imagine I'm flying my own mission when a friendly CAS jet pilot ejects. Is there any way to get the mission to recover him? Thanks! I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
markom Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 You can pretend that happened. I am just now finishing up a mission that involves para-drop. There is no such thing in DCS, but you can get creative with spawning, despawning, etc.

Own designed missions are boring, as you always know where everything will be. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
markom Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 So, you can kinda, maybe, do it. Say you get AI friendly destroyed. You can create on-destroy trigger, that fires in say... 20% of the cases (or 50, or 100, you get the idea). Trigger fires a lua script that gets that unit's location (I believe that may still exist post-destruction), and just spawn a human (say static object, or infantry) on the ground there. It may take some effort, but it sounds doable. If unit destruction removes unit location, you may want to trigger it of on unit destroyed more than X (50%), then get the location, do the spawn, and destroy the unit with a small explosive charge for fireworks :-). 1
104th_Money Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 The Rotorheads MP server has a script that gives coordinates for downed aircraft and actually spawns a soldier at that location for pickup. You have to land and pick up the soldier then it despawns as if he entered the helo. Not sure if it works for AI but it definitely works for player flown aircraft so I dont see why it wouldnt work for AI. Solution HILOK Posted May 1, 2023 Solution Posted May 1, 2023 dcs briefing room (still beta) is able to generate random SAR/CSAR missions for you including briefing, kneeboard etc. it's very nice https://github.com/akaAgar/briefing-room-for-dcs 1

markom Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 100% that would be a logical next expansion. I have done something similar for one of my missions, but have not gone through the pains of making it reusable.

If you are not adverse to scripting, the autoCSAR module in DML does this: create a CSAR mission for every pilot who successfully ejects. The "Feats and autoCSAR" demo in DML shows this (and the 'feats' capability of the playerScore module. If you think this may be helpful for you, perhaps look at the Demo's description in the docs (DML's manual discusses each of the included demos in detail), csarManager and autoCSAR are drop-in modules for your mission, so there is very little learning curve involved. demo - feats and autoCSAR.miz 1
streakeagle Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 The MOOSE mission scripting library includes a CSAR module that works very well and can be tailored to your needs via a list of options. An example mission is available for download and the Early Cold War servers hosted by the Forgotten all support CSAR. To try it out, search multiplayer for Korea, Vietnam and Cold War 1973-1977, patched to latest open beta. A ground unit spawns where an aircraft is downed (it can be any ground unit but is traditionally one of the infantry units). When you hover low enough or land close enough to the infantry unit, it automatically boards the helicopter and can then be dropped off at any designated "MASH" unit. The infantry can provide smoke of the desired color when a CSAR helo gets to a desired range. Each downed pilot also broadcasts a beacon frequency so you can home on his location. You can set an option to require/not require open doors for the downed pilot to board. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
