This only happens when I play on GrayFlag servers and the admins on Discord tell me that it isn't a server issue.

Every once in a while I log onto one of two Grayflag MP servers and I'll get a Connection Timeout / Server Ping Timeout error about 5 to 6 minutes after spawning in. This will occur over and over usually until the server restarts (up to 15 hours later). One day it will be their Persian Gulf map and the next time it will be on their Syria map. I havent had it happen on both servers at the same time (yet). Sometimes I'll play on either server for several days and have no issues, then all of a suddent I cant hold a connection at all until that particular server restarts.

My internet connection appears to be fine and I only have this issue on GrayFlag. The ping number in the MP lobby screen is around 50-65 for both servers when this happens. I have reshade installed, but I tried uninstalling reshade and the same thing happened, so I'm confident it's not that.

Any idea what this could be?

Thanks.

Hi. These solutions worked in the past, although the issue was global, not only affecting a handful of servers:

  • Activate a specific QoS mode in router.
  • Ask ISP for a static IP address.
  • Change router.

You can also simply try and reboot your router, but I'm not sure it ever solved the connection timeout issue.

I tried enabling QoS and that didn't help... I can enable static IP through my router controls and that did nothing also. Rebooted, factory reset all without result. The server will restart in an hour and the problem will go away for a day or two.

That is strange. Have you talked about this issue with GrayFlag admins?

Yes, you told us you did already.

Well, I'm at a loss here. Maybe you should monitor your game session with Wireshark. Install it, run it to capture network packets, then once the timeout appears, save the packets, zip them and send them to me in a private message. I'll see what I can find.

Do you run any non-default security software ? MBAM? Trend micro ? Firewall app? VPN?

I think it's my router, but I don't know why. I wired my PC directly to my modem instead of modem-->router-->PC and the problem stopped.

It's a Netgear R6400v2.
I will bet money it's a udp packet burst issue.

Udp packets are made to be dropped. That's the whole point of udp.

But DCS doesn't like when you drop its UDP packets and will boot you off the server if you stop responding to them.

Most likely (and Wireshark would confirm this) your router is getting overwhelmed with udp and choosing to drop some udp packets (normal), but DCS doesn't appreciate it.

QoS of your packets to the greyflag server port numbers should stop it. Make sure both udp and tcp are prioritized.

Bro, I wish I was technically savvy enough to know how to do this.

Here you go: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R6400v2/R6400v2_UM_EN.pdf

Page 94-95. The ports you want to configure are TCP 10308 and UDP 10308.

You all are both godsends. I've been having the same exact issue on and off for over about 3 months now and this so far has seemed to solve it! I swear I troubleshooted everything else other than the router (other than cycling it)... Good lord I can die now.
