Captain Orso Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I've disabled BitDefender completely and downloaded the latest updater binary from here DCS World Updates, which I run as administrator, and yet I still get an "access is denied" violations: 00032.085 ERROR: UNPACK_FAIL: (20048)->[FileError: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\_downloads\CoreMods/aircraft/Mirage-F1/bin/MirageF1Core.dll: (5) Access is denied. ] C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\_downloads\CoreMods/aircraft/Mirage-F1/bin/MirageF1Core.dll.downloading.1a69af192da30d09 00033.161 STATUS: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\_downloads\CoreMods/aircraft/Mirage-F1/bin/MirageF1Core.dll: (5) Access is denied. 00039.299 === Log closed. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted June 9, 2023 ED Team Posted June 9, 2023 Likely a false positive, some antivirus can be overly protective and bit defender seems to be one of them, you can submit the files to them for analysis. Or please try adding DCS root to your antivirus exclusion and run a repair to see if it helps thank you Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Captain Orso Posted June 9, 2023 Author Posted June 9, 2023 BitDefender was completely shut down. No protection of any kind was active when I ran the updater the last two times. While BD was active, it quarantined the offending files and logged the activity. With BD deactivated none of that is occurring. Only the access violation is seen in the update log file. Also note, that if an update attempt failed, a folder structure is left in ..\Eagle Dynamics\DCS OpenBets\_downloads. If updater is repeated with ..\_downloads in place, the updater opens this popup If I then--without touching the popup--navigate to this folder structure and search of the "2 files with 0 bytes" there are none to be found; all folders are empty. I don't know what I can do beyond turning all protects off in BD. When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. Bendy DCS Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I also had this problem with these exact same files and tried many things including a repair, fresh install, checking permissions and all sorts, basically after troubleshooting for a few hours including trying to disable and add exceptions to Bit Defender i managed to get it to work as follows 1) Open Bit Defender 2) Protection > Advanced > Bit Defender Shield - Set this to disabled for 15 or 30 minutes however long you need 3) Restart your computer (this is a crucial step it doesn't seem to apply otherwise) 4) Do the install 5) Big success 6) Protection > Advanced > Bit Defender Shield - Set this to enabled 1
Solution Captain Orso Posted June 10, 2023 Author Solution Posted June 10, 2023 (edited) Thanks for the reply! The instructions I use for disabling BD are from BD's site itself. I'm not saying your instructions are wrong, but... Then again, I set an exception for "..\Eagle Dynamics", as has been suggested a couple of times, and it made no difference. I would have restarted my system sooner to try that, but I had started a BD full system scan in the mean time and that... took a while. Long story short, once the system scan was completed, I restarted the system (BD was not deactivated in any way, but "Eagle Dynamics" folder was listed as an exception from before the restart, I deleted "..\_downloads" manually and ran the latest DCS_Update.exe I had downloaded from DCS home as administrator, and before I could blink, the update completed successfully! I'll have to beat up on BD later. Right now, Sinai!!..... is... downloading... 2 hours... so slow (my ISP)... sigh Edited June 10, 2023 by Captain Orso 1 When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. Paulski Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 I had exactly the same issue as i also use Bit Defender. I've had no issues with any other update. My resolution was similar to Bendy DCS although I ended reinstalling DCS even though i probably didn't have to. By this stage, i had copied files manually and done multiple cleans and repairs, so thought it was best to have a fresh copy. Although i only recommend this as a last resort due to the amount of data it needs to download. ( i lost a good day). For future updates, I might just disable Bit Defender Shield beforehand as a precaution.
Captain Orso Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 For me, the reboot fixed the issue. For whatever reason, the folder exception just didn't take until after reboot. How it is with disabling and rebooting, I can only go by what others have reported, that it only real works after rebooting. Strange. When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. burncpt Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 (edited) Hi Guys, I'm failing to update but the error is a different one... "Curl error (6): Couldn't resolve host name" I'm leaving my PC on overnight each time I try again but I just wake up with it asleep and the same error. Log attachedautoupdate_log.txt Any ideas? Thanks! Edited July 1, 2023 by burncpt
Captain Orso Posted July 1, 2023 Author Posted July 1, 2023 Are you sure your internet access is running correctly? Curl is a utility used for accessing network objects, kind of like how you use a browser to navigate to a site and load pages. The error says: 101035.840 ERROR: Got Curl error (6): Couldn't resolve host name 101038.376 ERROR: Conection to server 'www.digitalcombatsimulator.com' failed: Couldn't resolve host name It wanted to connect to 'www.digitalcombatsimulator.com' so it asked DNS (Domain Name Services) to convert 'www.digitalcombatsimulator.com' from the URL (the written out name) to the IP address, but DNS said it couldn't resolve the URL (find the name in its list of URL's). Try accessing the Eagle Dynamics home page by clicking the DCS logo at the top left of the page. If you don't get the DCS commercial site home page, you network is not working correctly. If you do get the normal page, something else is amiss. I'd simply restart windows and try again, just to clear out any "cobwebs" that might be bugging windows. burncpt Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Thanks Captain Orso. I do have a working connection (I think!) although I have had a lot of problems and been offline for the last 9 weeks (yes, really). So there may be some glitches. Is there a possibility it's caused by my PC going into sleep mode and interrupting the download? Thanks Chris
Captain Orso Posted July 3, 2023 Author Posted July 3, 2023 If you've been literally offline from the internet for 9 weeks, the first thing I'd do is check that you have all the windows updates. You can get security updates monthly and major fixes quarterly, so there might be a number of them to catch up with. Being offline has nothing to do with sleep mode. As previously stated, if you can open the DCS company page by clicking the DCS logo at the top left of this page, then DNS and your internet access is working, but since you replied to this thread--unless from your smart phone--I'm guessing that that that much is working. So check your internet access first before anything else. 1 When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. Yes, it is possible. Set "Never" for the PC shutdown mode when the power is connected and run the update. If this does not help, try loading Windows in safe mode (with mandatory support for network drivers!) and run the update again.
