I've been having a great time in DCS today, but expectations vs reality kick in on Sinai map: The buildings are just raw 3D models with no texture.
Off-white/beige on all:

Didn't measure any distances.. But all urban areas I fly by, or over show up like that.
It is not pretty.
Looks like some pre production CGI presentation

These are lod textures, I don't see any error here. But I think that we can raise the resolution of these textures, I will write it in a bug and see what can be done. Thank you

added to the bug list. Priority - medium

Improvements are very welcome, but from my pov it depends a bit on the lighting. In bright daylight (mid day sun) everything looks pretty dull and boring. That adds to the general problem that somebody else pointed out, that from inside the cockpits, the outside world looks over exposed.

I'm not sure if that is unique to sinai.

this is a problem in general for all games, so everyone tries to make sure that the sun is not at mid day sun. Because there is a Lahaina Noon effect

It is very difficult to make a beautiful picture when there are no shadows and volumetric lighting. I have attached a photo from real life.

Strange as it might seem; it has a lot to do with personal perception. At the moment, it is perceived as missing textures, because they do change slightly when real close.
If this "vision" is natural due to egyptian building tradition, combined with mentioned "Lahaina Noon", I probably could feed that into my mind and live with/enjoy that.
It seem, however that present visuals are a tiny bit on the wrong side of the margins.
Thank you!  🙂

Also, if the buildings in a given location tend to be a fairly uniform colour it looks worse. EG: Some parts of the world have a lot of light buildings to reflect heat better without using air conditioning. This may be the case here but I've not seen this region in real life but looking at Google street view a lot of it seems pretty uniform light colour.

As we can see in beauty shots in most games, the shots are taken when there will be shadows cast. Which is something like what you're talking about.

We can know that the Sinai map can look spectacular as long as the mission planner sets the time at interesting parts of the day, morning or evening so I'm not concerned by it. Night time looks darn fantastic.

So I think it is a combination of things. Game engine, time of day and common building colours in the region.
