Airway Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Admiral Kutznetzov Aircraft carrier of the Russian Navy close to the 500 tons of oil, in the Atlantic CONCERNS grew last night over the potential environmental impact of a massive 500-tonne oil spill which threatens beaches on Ireland's south-east coast. Was written by the Irish Independent Newspaper. The Russian Naval Attache confirmed an internal investigation was being carried out into the cause of the incident. The Russian vessels, the Admiral Kuznetsov and the Admiral Chabanenko, were refuelling at sea from a tanker after a patrol. However, the attache said they could not tell the Coast Guard how this happened or whether it was from their refuelling operations. ... Vessels on the scene yesterday included two refuelling tankers, one aircraft carrier, a Russian ocean-going tug, a Russian destroyer, a British destroyer and Irish Naval vessel LE Aisling... ..as you can see on the photo above. Peyoteros Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Whatever happens it's Russian fault? So what that British and Irish ships also were in the area... Must be Russian fault...Right? "Eagle Dynamics" - simulating human madness since 1991 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ۞ ۞
Namenlos Ein Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 http://www.lenta.ru/news/2009/02/17/makarov/ — in Russian. Looks like chief of Russian General Staff confirmed the fact of oil leak. But he is denied "massive 500-tonne oil spill". He said it is lesser than mass media told.
Airway Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Whatever happens it's Russian fault? So what that British and Irish ships also were in the area... Must be Russian fault...Right? The evidence is almost clear and the Russian Navy itself had started internal investigations. As Namenlos Ein wrote, it was an oil leak, already confirmed by General Nikolai Makarov. They just say it was not that much. But where did the rest come from then? Heaven? Well and as there are no Irish and british fisherboats capable to load 500 tons of oil - I personally think that no alien has dropped that oil in the Atlantic.
Acedy Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Whoever dumped that stuff, I just hope it does not reach the Irish coast. I have been to Arklow and Rosslare two years ago and both the beaches and the coastal region in general is beautiful (although maybe not as nice as the west coast, but still). That would be a pity. :( The photo shows the beach of Rosslare beside the harbour. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *** SERVMAN SERVER MANAGEMENT MOD V2 FOR DCS:BS V1.0.1 *** *** VERSION FOR FC2 ***

I guess there are also lots of other large ships travelling the area, going into and out of Dublin port or passing the Irish Sea. Yes, and as the oil in the sea is being compared in laboratory tests, they will exactly find out who made the mess and bring them to justice.

Namenlos Ein Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Cork_oil_spill The Russian government has dispatched a high-level diplomatic delegation to Ireland to discuss the impact of the spill. The delegation will include experts in the field and is expected to arrive in Ireland within a few days. The Russian military now states that it believes the spill may have been caused during cleaning of the deck of the Admiral Kuznetsov. On February 20 the slick was reported to be moving very slowly eastwards and the Irish Coast Guard said that it was possible that the slick may avoid the Irish coast completely, owing to favourable winds. However both the British and Irish governments have drafted emergency plans for the cleaning of any affected coasts.I can't understand how it possible to clean the deck with 522 tonnes of oil. 1
Boberro Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Much oil... Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Airway Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 There's a lot of shellfish, mussels and oyster in that area. 25% of the Irish national production is normally fished in that are. A lot of local fishers will be affected :(
CE_Mikemonster Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Even when you're refuelling how do you 'miss' 500 tonnes of oil? The Russian Navy says that it is willing to share data in an attempt to identify the origin of the spill which it says is "not catastrophic in nature and does not present a threat to the coastal environment." Hmmm... EDIT: What data, apart from accident logs, can there be? E-mail would do the trick. It's instant as well. Obviously it can't be that simple though.. There are procedures.. Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
