Rongor Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 (edited) According to the manual, selecting SP on the TGP should command the TGP's LOS at half the distance of current FCR range. This is currently not the case. Instead the TGP's LOS is commanded to the current steerpoint, into the sky if these points have altitude. In the attached track I select SP on a SOI'ed TGP while flying towards a steerpoint set to 6500 ft altitude at 12 oclock. It's commanded into the sky instead of the ground. After TMS up I have to slew the TGP down towards the ground. Switching to a second steerpoint roughly colocated with the 1st, yet on 40000 ft makes the SP command the LOS even higher into the sky. The FCR range is 40 in both cases, yet the LOS is clearly commanded to the steerpoint instead of half the FCR-range. TGP SP elev.trk Edited June 30, 2023 by Rongor 1
ED Team Lord Vader Posted June 30, 2023 ED Team Posted June 30, 2023 Hi @Rongor This is known and we are improving the SP mode on the TPOD in future updates. 1 Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
ED Team Solution Lord Vader Posted June 30, 2023 ED Team Solution Posted June 30, 2023 Hi again, so we reviewed this snowplow logic and concluded the following: - When in pre-designate state, the Snowplow cursor is at a fixed location in front of the aircraft. The Snowplow cursor needs an elevation component to determine the look-down angle because 50% FCR range only determines the horizontal component. The Snowplow cursor is placed at the elevation of the current steerpoint, which is where the FCR beam and TGP is focused. After designating, then the cursor will move to the altitude of the terrain. There are some additional refinements coming to Snowplow with the core sighting point/targeting logic, and those refinements is what I mentioned above as being reported. But the elevation mechanism of Snowplow while in a pre-designate state is already working as intended. - This, or course, means that the manual needs updating. Like we've mentioned in other posts, the manual is currently being revised to reflect current states. We understand this may lead to confusion but a good rule of thumb is to keep up with changelogs and check for updates/changes. 1 1 Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
