23 June 2023

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

We are delighted to announce the Early Access release of the much anticipated DCS: F-15E by RAZBAM. If you haven’t already seen the video, check it out here: DCS: F-15E | LAUNCH.

The F-15E, also affectionately known as the “Mud Hen”, was developed in the mid-80s as a true swing-role fighter-bomber capable of performing all air-to-air and air-to-ground missions at low or high altitude, day or night, and in any weather. The F-15E is the USAF's premier strike fighter in use today with over 220 aircraft deployed.

The 750-gallon Conformal Fuel Tanks give the F-15E an un-refuelled combat radius of 790 miles (1270 km). In the air-to-ground role, the F-15E can carry just about every weapon in the USAF inventory.  Air-to-air, can be armed with the latest generation AIM-9X Sidewinders and/or the formidable AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and is additionally equipped with a 20mm cannon carrying 500 rounds.

The APG-70 radar boasts a synthetic mapping function that creates detailed target pictures based solely on radar imaging. A self-contained, networked electronic warfare suite provides an enviable level of self-protection.

The Weapons Systems Operator (WSO - back seater) is at the heart of the aircraft’s capabilities, maximizing the effectiveness of the F-15E. The DCS: F-15E features multi-crew capability and can be flown in DCS as a single pilot/WSO from either front or backseat. Despite both cockpits offering mostly-mirrored systems and capabilities, the WSO's job guarantees excellent role optimisation with a focus on the management of this potent integrated weapons and avionics suite. This results in enhanced situational awareness, aircraft survivability and platform performance with lower workloads and higher target engagement numbers.

The Low-Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) gives the F-15E phenomenal accuracy in day/night, low altitude, and all-weather conditions, and enables it to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons.

Bringing this all together and placing battlespace information at the hands of the crew, the F-15E is a weapon revered the world over.

Download it here: DCS: F-15E by RAZBAM.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics

GFM

Development Progress

Hero2.png

Following the completion of tight formation GFM implementation our current GFM task is development of algorithms loose formation behavior. Due to the large turn radius for loose formation modes, wingmen must follow their own independent trajectories in order to position correctly on the leader.  New algorithms are being developed to take both kinematic trajectories and pilot/aircraft visibility conditions into account, similar to what real pilots must to keep their lead aircraft always in sight.

Stab and trim position during speed changes

Hero3.png

The above graph is a recording of the stab trim position during acceleration and deceleration. As increased power creates a nose-up pitching moment, the stab trim positions are not the same for acceleration at max AB and deceleration at idle, especially at low speeds and requires more nose-down input. Mach-related changes are noticeable near Mach 1. We are really excited with the progress being made and are confident that the wingman GFM and general AI aircraft GFM will be unique in any simulation worldwide. Please follow the news for more information as we continue to enhance this highly complex general flight model.

B-17 Flying Fortress

Livery Contest

Hero3.png

Contest details: The livery must be created using this template. The livery must be based on historical liveries in use for the B-17G in the timeline of 1943-45. The livery should be associated with a country who genuinely operates the B-17G, USAAF, RAF, etc. If you do a specific livery with nose art and aircraft name, please also include a generic version with no nose art, aircraft name or bort numbers. This will give users more options.

Here are instructions for saving textures with MIP levels using NVIDIA Texture Tools for Adobe Photoshop. After submitting your file to User Files, please post in the B-17G Livery Competition forum topic with a screenshot and link to your file from the ED user files.

The contest will run until the 30th August 2023. The top five winners will receive a free copy of the DCS: World War II Assets Pack or a module of their choice. The top ten will have their liveries added to DCS. The top winner will also receive two additional modules of their choice. Good luck!

In addition, a special group of filters will be available to filter slots to only those modules you have installed. Another filter for which airfield coalition is currently the same as the slot, in case of the airfield being captured by another coalition. Moreover, hot start, cold start and air start slots filters. A free search field will allow search for any specific string; you can search for a username to see which slot is occupied by this user. As a second step, we plan to improve the interface after joining the server with additional interaction right on the map. Please follow the news for more details coming soon.

F-100D

Development Report

Hero2.png

Utilizing advanced 3D scanning technologies and photogrammetry we have obtained precise measurements, shapes, and textures of the exterior and cockpit. All data was then processed and refined before being sent to our 3D art team to be used as accurate reference for modeling & texturing. The following areas were addressed to enhance the F-100D Super Sabre module:

Exterior Model:
Detailed photography serves as the foundation for creating an accurate exterior model of the F-100D. This included refining the aircraft's overall shape, panel lines, surface details, and textures. The goal was to recreate the iconic appearance of the Super Sabre with the utmost fidelity, allowing users to appreciate its unique design features.

Cockpit Model:
The 3D scans provide invaluable references for recreating the F-100D's cockpit. Every switch, knob, gauge, and control panel can be meticulously replicated to reflect the real-world counterpart. The integration of accurate cockpit lighting and functional elements further adds to the immersive experience of operating the aircraft.

Sound Design:
To complement the visual and flight model improvements, the development team additionally recorded a multitude of sounds from the cockpit enhancing the audio experience associated with the F-100D Super Sabre.

Current Progress:
The current development progress of the F-100D module is steadily moving forward, with the module currently in a flyable state. We have made significant progress in various areas, including the flight model, engine, fuel and hydraulic systems, which are currently undergoing alpha testing. Additionally, we are actively testing and refining the core systems of the aircraft, such as electrical, radio, radio navigation, TACAN, oxygen, lighting, IFF, seek silence, and base weapon systems. These systems are being fine tuned to ensure their functionality and authenticity in the aircraft. Comprehensive testing allows us to identify and address any issues or improvements necessary to deliver an immersive F-100D experience to the community.

Future Development:
The integration of 3D scans has significantly improved the accuracy and fidelity of the F-100D Super Sabre module in DCS World. However, our commitment to ongoing development means that there are still further improvements to be made. Our future plans include:

  • Continuously refining and optimizing the exterior and cockpit models based on feedback from the community and subject matter experts.
  • Fine-tuning the flight model to ensure a more realistic and enjoyable flight experience.
  • Weapon system implementation and integration.
  • Expanding the available liveries and customization options to provide a wider range of visual variations.
  • Collaborating with real F-100D pilots and experts to incorporate their insights and knowledge into the module's development.

To stay up to date with our progress, we invite you to follow the latest developments at www.grinnellidesigns.com/progress.

MultiCrew

Development Progress

Hero1.png

The eagerly awaited MultiCrew functionality and the corresponding changes for Voice Chat and Cargo Ops support are now implemented with the most recent open beta update. Enjoy!

Four crew positions are available including the cockpit crew and the side gunner. We have added new functionality to MultiCrew join requests permitting the crew commander to see the various role requests.

The DCS: Mi-8MTV2 has specific AI crew functionality for the mechanic-technician (center cockpit seat) such as the on-demand monitoring of the yaw autopilot channel. If a human player takes this role then the AI functionality ceases to work automatically and switches over to the specific player to manage. While working with cargo, the mechanic-technician is moved to the rear cabin for cargo ops observation and management.

Mi-24P Hind

Development Progress

Hero2.png

We are nearing the completion of the Hind’s first person ‘in cockpit 3D pilot model’. As a matter of interest, the work on these models is a relatively sophisticated process. Here are the key steps:

Stage 1 Pilot Figure Modeling:

The basic articulated human body is selected and the desired clothing style and fabric is laid over it. The analysis of original flight suits, parachutes and crew equipment along with photographs, videos is collated. Additional talks with pilots and SMEs are made to iron out any fine nuances. Facial modeling to a suitable character is developed with skin and detail texturing to follow.

Hero3.png

Stage 2 Placing pilot model in the cockpit and animation:

In-cockpit animations are selected with a view to delivering natural man-machine interface as well as realistic body, head and eye movement.

Hero4.png

More specific animations, such as leaning into the aiming sight and interacting with cockpit control panels are determined and fine tuned for realism. Finally, each crew member is given an animation for simulated incapacitation.

From the VR point of view, our goal is to deliver realism and immersion and make you feel as though it is your own body.

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

We are excited to announce the DCS: F-104 now under development with our third-party partners, Aerges! More than 2’500 of these fabulous interceptors were flown by 15 nations from the 1950s until 2004. The Lockheed F-104 was a lightweight, Mach 2 interceptor with phenomenal rate of climb and excellent roll rate thanks to its unique, high wing loading design. During its service, it set multiple performance records including airspeed, altitude, and time-to-climb. A hallmark of the “Century Series” of USAF aircraft, the F-104 will be a must have for DCS Cold War pilots.

Aerges is also looking forward to bringing you their latest update on the DCS: Mirage F1. Offering exciting enhancements and the two-seat EB variant! Please read the details below and check out the https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/screenshots/

F-104

Announcement

Hero1.png
The Aerges Team is excited to present their upcoming DCS: F-104 module. Using the experience gained developing the DCS: C-101 Aviojet and the DCS: Mirage F1 modules, they will certainly deliver the most accurate simulation of this exceptional and iconic machine.

Designed by the legendary Kelly Johnson, of P-38, U-2 and SR-71, the F-104 was initially designed to counter the threat posed by the MiG-15 over Korea, and later the MiG-17. Equipped with a single J79-GE-19 turbo jet installed in a very small and lightweight aircraft, the F-104 had excellent airspeed and acceleration qualities that outmatched aircraft of the same era.

Armed with a 725-round M61A1 20mm autocannon and up to two AIM-9 Sidewinders, the F-104 was a within visual range fighter that relied on high-speed slashing attacks rather than turning dogfights due to its poor turn rates. Although optimized for the interceptor role, it could also be armed with unguided rockets and bombs for ground attack.

An AN/ASG-14T1 ranging radar and fire control computer enabled the F-104 to search for aerial targets out to 40 nm and track them within 10 nm.

The F-104 took part in the 1958 Taiwan Strait Crisis and played a deterrent force during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. Between 1965 and 1967, it flew 5,206 sorties during the Vietnam War. In 1971, Pakistani F-104s took part in the Indo-Pakistan War.

Mirage F1BE

Development Progress

Hero2.png

Aerges is happy to announce that the Mirage F1BE (two-seater) is now entering the final testing phase before public release. This version will be ideal for conversion training, and it will provide the opportunity to fly with friends in multiplayer using DCS multicrew.

The second seat adds an additional 30 cm to the length of the aircraft, which results in reduced internal fuel and the removal of the twin 30mm cannons. All other combat capabilities are retained from the single-seat version, with the loss of the internal cannons and internal fuel being compensated for with the addition of cannon pods and external fuel tanks. The back seat also includes a heads-up sight repeater which is unique in DCS.

Hero3.png

The addition of the Mirage F1BE adds an interesting role playing option for the Mirage F1 pilot journey. Starting with the C-101 to learn basic airmanship, then transitioning to the Mirage F1BE, a part of the Mirage F1 Basic Course (B-Course), and then concluding with a Mirage F1 tactical unit. Aerges provides this unique experience, available nowhere else in DCS World.

We continue to add the logic and animations that govern how aircraft are directed from a parking location to a catapult and how aircraft are directed out of the landing area after recovering. This includes new yellow shirt plane directors and brown shirt plane captains. Aircraft will be handed off between multiple plane directors to reach their assigned catapults with realistic animations.  Closed Beta Testing of this is on-going. This is a complex and time consuming task to account for a myriad of conditions that could “break” the logic. Thank you for your patience as we strive to complete this new feature soon.

06 October 2023

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

We are pleased to inform you of the most recent changes coming to the F/A-18C and F-16C air-to-air radar detection modelling. Notably, we have further refined how the radar detects targets based on a realistic set of probabilities. Take a look at the technical explanation below. Stay tuned for the feature drop in the upcoming DCS 2.9 Open Beta!

DCS: Mi-24P Hind will also receive a wealth of improvements in the upcoming open beta update! You can look forward to exciting Petrovich AI enhancements and an updated SPO-10 Radar Warning Receiver (RWR). More details below.

Bogey Dope is an ex-USAF F-16 Crew Chief that creates easily digestible DCS tutorials, cinematics, and missions on YouTube. His channel is a great resource for DCS pilots, and we encourage you to check out his channel and show him your support!

Please note that if your Steam account is bound to your DCS account, you will not be able to log into the Steam version of the game and will encounter a 403 error. This change has been implemented to enhance security and streamline access to DCS.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics

Air-to-Air Radar

Improvement

Hero1.png

In our previous White Paper regarding Phase 1 of improving the F-16C and F/A-18C radars, we discussed advances in how we calculate detection range based on Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF), average transmitted power, receiver noise figure, antenna area, and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). You can find this White Paper here:

Eagle_Dynamics_Radar_White_Paper_v1 (digitalcombatsimulator.com)

For Phase 2 of radar model update, we will be accounting for the following:

Fluctuation of Target RCS. Real targets have complex shapes, and their linear sizes are often larger than radar wavelength. This means that radar returns from different parts of the airframe may add or cancel each other depending on their relative phase causing the RCS to fluctuate. In our approach, RCS is approximately constant during dwell, but randomly changes from dwell to dwell according to exponential distribution (this approach is known as the Swerling Case I model). This results in non-constant detection range and target detection probability.

Noise Variability. Detection probability will also depend on the noise level, its variability, and the number of Coherent Processing Intervals (CPIs) per dwell. Because the noise level continuously changes, the target may or may not be detected in a particular CPI. For example: There are three CPIs per dwell in HPRF RWS mode, and for successful ranging, the target should be detected in all three CPIs. Obviously, the probability of detection in all three CPIs is lower than the probability of detection in one of three CPIs or in three of eight CPIs (like in MPRF mode). In HPRF Velocity Search mode, Post-Detection Integration (PDI) replaces Frequency Modulation Ranging (FMR). In that mode, signals from three CPIs are summed to make noise fluctuations smaller and thus minimise the probability of false alarms. This allows lower threshold sensitivity and increased detection range without increasing false alarm probability.

Mode-Specific Range and Doppler Resolution. Closely spaced targets may not be resolved individually, and they may be displayed as a single target. Return energy off such targets may fall into a single doppler range bin and result in detection at longer ranges. Velocity resolution depends on CPI duration. So, in HPRF with three CPIs per dwell resolution is better than that in MPRF mode with eight CPIs per dwell (dwell duration is constant, so CPIs are shorter). In RAID mode, up to four CPIs may be merged into one, thus increasing velocity resolution four times. RWS HPRF mode uses linear frequency modulation for ranging, and it has poor range resolution (in order of 2 nm, which improves four times in RAID mode). In MPRF mode, range resolution is defined by range bin size and it is always equal to 150 meters.

Atmospheric Propagation Loss. The atmosphere absorbs radio waves proportional to its density. So, at higher altitudes, detection range is greater than at low altitude.

In summary, the Phase 2 changes provide a more realistic simulation of radar detection probabilities that will have more variable detection ranges, low-quality/spurious detections, more accurate RCS effects, and modelling of radar modes.

In Phase 3 we will focus on false targets, look-down performance, and improved modelling of Single Target Track (STT) mode.

Mi-24P Hind

Development Progress

Hero2.png

Recent DCS: Mi-24 Hind development has focused on additional Petrovich AI features, an SPO-10 RWR system update, and tuning of the swashplate control limits.

Petrovich AI is getting new and more realistic target scan behaviour to deal with the same issues that real crews cope with. You may have noticed that Petrovich AI now lists all the targets he can see only after his sight is enabled and can be slewed. We've decided to improve this interaction with Petrovich AI by restricting him to the same limits as a human operator.

The new target scanning system involves a deeper analysis of the target area and its surroundings. It will analyse the target area for any threats in the vicinity. After that, the algorithm calculates the search time based on the number of objects surrounding the target. With this new system, only targets that are clearly in view will be recognized instantly, while targets that are hidden by trees, bushes etc. will take longer to spot. The more objects surrounding the potential target, the longer it will take for Petrovich to detect it.

The updated SPO-10 RWR will consist of four channels with completely independent processing, the same as in the real system. The radar detection calculations are physics based, they calculate the radiation pattern of the transmitting source, the sensitivity of the receiving antennas, and the transmitting power of the emitter. This translates to detecting low-power radar emitters and shorter range and vice versa. Detection range will also vary based on bearing to the emitter source. For certain radars, the range can also be judged based on how frequent the detections are. The system will now only detect emission sources within the operating frequency range of the RWR. For instance, early warning and search radars and some other radar types will not be detected.

We are also refining the pitch and roll channels authority based on comparison data. Our earlier version was based on the Mi-24V swashplate limits. Compared to new Mi-24P data, it should have less authority in pitch and roll, and we are correcting this discrepancy. This will make DCS: Mi-24P Hind 10% more responsive to pitch and up to 24% in roll input changes.

13 October 2023

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

An interesting aspect of the DCS 2.9 update coming soon is a substantial improvement to Voice Chat, and we think you will enjoy it. We would like to extend a special thanks to our Closed Beta testers who have provided valuable feedback to help tune this great feature.

DCS 2.9 will also see a dramatic improvement in the realism and detail of datalinks in the DCS: F/A-18C, DCS: F-16C Viper, DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer and DCS: AH-64D. Currently, player aircraft are limited to exchanging data within a Mission Editor aircraft group. With 2.9, each aircraft type is assigned a unique identification that is used to create a network. This allows the creation and editing of datalink networks whilst on a mission.

Get ready for DCS: MAD Black Shark Campaign by Stone Sky. This upcoming campaign will include 12 narrative missions for DCS: Black Shark 3, custom liveries, and missions from Special Operations Forces close air support and combat search and rescue. Stay tuned for the release!

Thank you again for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics

Voice Chat

Improvement

Hero1.png

To ensure improved immersion, our new Voice Chat system now uses real-world audio physics to modulate the sound of your voice in order to replicate radio effects. To create more life-like communications, distortions, signal loss, and interference are simulated. These effects will vary based on the era of the radio, meaning, voices in modern aircraft will be clearer than in warbirds.

We are also making improvements to the radio and Voice Chat Room interfaces, allowing you to find your friends in multiplayer more easily.

Soon, Voice Chat will be rolled out to all other DCS modules, starting with the ‘Airboss’ for DCS: Supercarrier. We are also working on a separate voice chat program, which will allow you to communicate with units in multiplayer servers without having to actually run the simulator. Please subscribe to the newsletter in the Personal section on our website  for more details coming soon!

Datalink

Development Report

Hero2.png

Both the F-16C and F/A-18C include the Tactical Network Datalink, or TNDL. This allows the creation and in-mission editing of datalink members. Members can exchange air-to-air and air-to-surface targeting information. Both aircraft types can exchange data with each other.

Please enjoy these videos by Matt Wagner on the DCS: F-16C Viper | Datalink Update and the DCS: F-16C Viper | HARM Targeting Update with TDOA. To get familiar with datalink in the Hornet, make sure to check out the DCS: F/A-18C | Datalink Update video.

DCS 2.9 will also include datalink for the AH-64D. This datalink can currently only exchange data between other AH-64Ds. It features the ability to send and receive participant locations, targets and threats, waypoints and hazards, routes, and more. It also allows the sharing of fuel, ammunition, rockets, missiles, FARM and reports between members. Watch the DCS: AH-64D | Datalink Setup and DCS: AH-64D | Datalink Messaging.

The DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer datalink will also benefit from an update in DCS 2.9, allowing you to configure Track Numbers for A-10C II aircraft as members and donors across groups.

F-4E Phantom II

Pre-purchase now

Hero1.png

The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long- range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy. After entering service with the Navy in 1961, it became adopted by the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force. Due to its high adaptability, versatility and for its time, unparalleled capabilities, it quickly turned into the main workhorse for all 3 branches and spread beyond the borders of the United States, going on to serve and protect 12 nations across the world, with Phantoms still in operation today. Its production ran from 1958 to 1981, and with nigh 5200 Phantoms built, it became the most produced supersonic US military aircraft in the history, solidifying its place as one of the most recognizable and well known aircraft of the cold war era.

It truly was an iconic and phabulous aircraft that enjoyed unrivaled power and capabilities at the time. It instilled a sense of wonder with unmatched character and left its pilots with a deep sense of respect and love. Both an interceptor and potent air to air fighter, it proved its multirole capabilities as a highly effective air to ground workhorse which packed a serious punch. This unprecedented mission agility and reliability is reflected in the type’s operational lifetime which spanned well over six decades, continuing even today.

Hero2.png

Some of the important features of the aircraft are the two General Electric J- 79 turbofan engines which generated  an impressive dry thrust of 23,810 lbs and a max afterburner thrust of 35,690 lbf; a crew of two; the powerful AN/APQ-120 Radar; the Digital Scan Converter Group (DSCG); the Weapons Release Computer Set (WRCS); the Aircraft Weapons Release Unit (AWRU) and an Altitude Reference and Bombing Computer Set (ARBCS). The DSCG version of the F-4E also comes with the AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike targeting pod, allowing for precision strikes and the (self-)-employment of laser guided ammunition. Additionally the F-4E can carry the AGM-65 Maverick, a wide array of iron bombs as well as TV and laser guided bombs, plus the capability to carry out Wild Weasel (SEAD) tasks in a limited capacity with the AGM-45 Shrike.

Unlike previous Phantom variants, the -E comes equipped with an integrated M61 Vulcan cannon that can be used both in an air to ground and air to air role. It has an optical sight that allows for lead computing optical sighting (LCOS) in air to air, as well as the ability to carry additional Vulcan cannon pods. It benefits from the ALR-46 Radar Warning Receiver, the AN/ALE-40 countermeasures suite, the AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod, KY-28 encryption equipment and employs a range of early to modern era AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles for aerial combat that can be also used through the additional specialized CAGED and computer automatic acquisition (CAA) modes.

The Heatblur Simulations F-4E Phantom II aims to simulate this iconic aircraft as a high-fidelity module for DCS, being the culmination of several years of research, coding and modeling.

Special points to highlight are the extensive use of laser scanning and photogrammetry from real Phantoms at various museums, the detailed External Flight Model (EFM) developed over the past several years and verified by F-4 pilots and WSOs, the detailed modeling of the AN/APQ- 120 radar, the various complex onboard systems, and the ability to fly as a two- crew aircraft in multiplayer in addition to the proprietary JESTER-AI assisting you as your AI-WSO in singleplayer.

Hero3.png

Key features of the Heatblur Simulations DCS: F-4E Phantom II include:

  • The simulation of both the DSCG and DMAS equipped -E variants, the DMAS version following later during the Early Access period.
  • Highly-detailed external model that is built using laser scanning and photogrammetry taken of real F-4 Phantoms across the globe.
  • New weapon models for some of the F-4 Phantom payloads such as the AGM-45 Shrike, the AGM-12 Bullpup, the AGM-62 Walleye, and AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike targeting pod.

  • New and improved effects like advanced overwing vapors, new procedural animation systems, and more.
  • Detailed and highly accurate simulations of the AN/APQ-120 radar and ALR-46 RWR.
  • A detailed simulation of the AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike targeting pod that allows the WSO to guide laser guided munitions dropped by the pilot or other aircraft (buddy-lasing).
  • A comprehensive digital manual, both as a PDF and as a continually updated online manual. It is directly accessible from within the cockpit at any time via Interactive Tooltips and/or the EBAG.
  • A complete set of interactive and voiced tutorials.
  • A comprehensive set of missions and campaigns to be gradually released during Early Access and beyond.
  • NOTE: Some features may not be available immediately. The later F-4E DMAS equipped variant, including Pave Tack and TISEO, will follow during the early access period and the tutorials and campaigns will be implemented and expanded as well.

Mi-24P Hind

New Campaign

Hero1.png

In the DCS: Mi-24P Hind "Revenge" campaign, you will participate in similar events to the DCS: Su-25 campaign of the same name, this time as an army aviation pilot.

According to intelligence reports, there is evidence of a Georgian military ground force concentration on the south-eastern side of Enguri River along KAHAT - OIREME - BASHI - RIKE. They are attempting to create a striking echelon, consisting of the 2th MIB and reinforcing units. Enemy radiocommunication and the number of radio checks has also been increased.

In order to withstand the imminent threat in the region, the necessary reinforcements of friendly troops have been undertaken including; the shift of an extra pair of DCS: Mi-24P Hind attack helicopters to the advance position 2 km west of ACHIGVARA (callsign "Skala").

The “Revanche” campaign for the Hind and the brand new 3D pilot model are slated to be included in the next DCS 2.9 open beta update. Stay tuned!

Recently we announced that we have been reviewing new information about the differences between Mi-24V and Mi-24P swash plate movement limits. After thorough additional checks with our SME, we've got more factual information from the real aircraft. The current implementation still stands correct as a result of that research and in the end we've concluded that currently no changes are needed.

AGM-45 Shrike

Development Progress

Hero2.png

As many aviation weapons experts know, the first generation of anti-radiation missiles that appeared in the 1960s, such as the AGM-45 Shrike, had interchangeable seekers tuned to different frequency bands. At that time, it was not possible to make one broadband universal seeker, so seekers were mounted on missiles before flight in accordance with the target type it was planning to strike. The Shrike has 10 interchangeable seekers tuned to different frequency bands that overlap each other. Wider bands are suitable for attacks on a family of similar radars, whereas narrower ones are for hitting specific types of radio-emitting equipment.

Hero3.png

The AGM-45 Shrike missiles were widely used in the US Air Force by many tactical aircraft since the Vietnam War. In fact, they were the main ARM of both the multi-role F-4E Phantom aircraft and the specialized F-4G Wild Weasel. In DCS, you will be required to select the seeker from a special weapon settings panel in the Mission Editor.

Targeting Spotting

Development Progress

Hero2.png

In the latest DCS Open Beta update, we added a new target spotting algorithm that allows the rendering of objects to not be affected by view zoom level and have a maximum rendering distance based on the object size. Some community members have responded positively to these changes; however, we have also received some critical feedback, especially from VR users. In the most recent DCS 2.9 Open Beta update, we will be adding a settings toggle to switch this algorithm ON or OFF. If set to OFF, the rendering is reverted to the previous method. We continue to improve this feature for VR, and we would like to extend our thanks for your feedback.

SATAC 2023

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

Our Autumn Sale is still ongoing and now also on Steam. Don’t miss this opportunity to take advantage of up to 50% discount on our most important modules.

We continue to work on Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) texturing of the ships and ground forces in DCS. We are also working on more realistic thermal signatures for the deck crew on board DCS: Supercarrier. Please read the details below.

The Tempest multiplayer server is running their Blue Flash V3 campaign, and we encourage you to go and check them out. They offer both fixed and rotary-wing action on a variety of missions that involve team coordination to attack and defend front lines, strategic locations, and high-value assets. Join the Tempest’s Discord.

The Q&A will be coming soon. The sheer volume of data and information has made this task more challenging than expected but the feedback has been wonderful.

Many thanks for all your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics

FLIR

Development Report

Hero2.png

We have recently been developing infrared (IR) textures for ships, deck personnel, and more ground units. This required gathering and analysing various references. As a result, we created IR textures for units that correspond to engine locations, exhaust systems, electronic devices, and weapons. They will have the ability to noticeably heat up and cool down based on operation. Authentic IR maps have also been developed for the DCS: Supercarrier deck crew, where the thickness of clothing, equipment, masks, and human body heat are considered. Please stay tuned for more news on this subject soon.

Tempest’s Blue Flash

Multiplayer Server

Hero3.png

The sister server of Enigma's Cold War is back with version 3! This evolution focuses on a curated, hand-crafted multimap/multi-mission campaign that begins in the Persian Gulf with a battle for Dubai. Territorial control will initially stretch across the Syria and Sinai maps as sides advance through tailor-made objectives.

The Tempest server has created a detailed Blue Flash V3 presentation. The community is mostly Discord-based where you can ask questions, provide feedback, and make suggestions. Because this is an open beta test of the new server campaign, please feel free to post in the Tempest’s Discord channels if you come across any issues. Good hunting!

Thank you again for your passion and support, and thank you for all your valuable feedback.

Yours sincerely,
