Fakum Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Hi, I posted this over on VR4DCS Discord as well as I realize there may be people here that dont visit there, so Im fishing both sides of the lake here. I have my head burried in the books here, looking at Tutorials and reading through forums in preperation for my Reverb to arrive next week. One thing I am not clear on, and that is setting up my monitor resolution in DCS for VR. Now I assume that when its spoken about, its from within the "VR" Tabs setting in DCS Options, and not the Tabs for Custom 1, 2 or 3 correct, I dont need to disturb those settings do I? Assuming not, What am I supposed to set my monitor settings for in the "VR" Tab section to get best performance in VR? And I was reading something about unticking or ticking the mirror option? Right now, my desktop resolution for this monitor is 3840 x 1600 (at 175% Scaling) and its the same setting within DCS. Any advice would be appreciated. speed-of-heat Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 (edited) I'm not sure I understand your question. I think it is "does Monitor resolution make any difference to performance in VR"? It makes no appreciable difference to VR performance. Fakum Posted July 16, 2023 Author Posted July 16, 2023 @speed-of-heat Sorry if I was not clear. I have seen tutorials that clearly state to set your monitor resolution to lowest possible. I dont understand why, or even if it is actually recommended? speed-of-heat Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 sure you can, it makes no measurable difference in any test I have conducted. a lot of people say "x", nobody measures it, or if they do they don't measure it with data but with "feelings", or with an un-stabilized head or without a baseline... it makes no difference in any measurement i have taken to CPU or GPU frame time, that was not inside the boundary of the normal error range. But, it really doesn't matter what "I" say ... measure it yourself, and see if it makes a meaningful difference for you ... speed-of-heat Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 the exception to this is if you are recording, when the VR Mirror size will make a difference to performance , as we are now transcribing and transforming a number of pixels to memory or disk SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
Fakum Posted July 16, 2023 Author Posted July 16, 2023 @speed-of-heatI thought I already responded to this, but I dont see it posted? Anywho, I dont record, so no matter. Your position is simply that it doesnt matter if not recording, got it, thanks for your feedback! WipeUout Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Same here, I did tests from a 4k desktop resolution down to 800x600 with a 0.1 ms GPU frametime difference, which is within the margin of error. No change in performance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9800X3D, RTX 4090, 96GB DDR 5, MSI Tomahawk 870E, Crucial 2TB x 2, TM WARTHOG COMBO + PENDULAR RUDDER PEDALS, THE AMAZING PIMAX 8K X, Sony 5.1 Spks+SubW | DCS, A-10C_II, AH-64D, F-14/15E/16/18, F-86F, AV-8B, M-2000C, SA342, Huey, Spitfire, FC3.

diego999 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 As the guys above said, there is no noticeable difference.
