Anyone using Prescription Lenses with the Pimax Crystal?

Hi everyone,

I got into VR and will never go back to flat panels in DCS, ever. Bought a used Reverb G2 for 350 Euros and I love it. It does have its flaws though and I've been thinking about upgrading to the Pimax Crystal eventually.

However, there is a problem: I wear glasses and I absolutely hate mixing glasses with any VR goggles. Ordering prescription lenses for my G2 was a night and day difference in both comfort and clarity comparing to using the G2 while wearing glasses ( mind you, I even scratched the G2 lenses with my glasses! ouch )

The question is: from what I googled it seems that the prescription lenses with the Crystal are a polarized subject. Some say it's wonderful ( mostly paid YouTube reviews of course ) and others say it just doesn't work right, including the VR prescription lenses manufacturer that made my G2 set, VR Optician ( who did an incredible job mind you ). Therefore I am leaving this here hoping that in the future some glasses wearers who fly in DCS with the Crystal can offer some insight.

- If you have prescription lenses for the Crystal, do they work well? Is the clarity unaffected?

- Where did you get the lenses from?

- Did you need a bigger face foam in order to fit the lenses between your face and the Pimax's lenses? If so, any significant reduction in FOV, especially horizontal?

- Last but not least and extremely important: Does eye-tracking and foveated rendering work for you with the prescription lenses?

Thanks

I have been using HonsVR prescription lenses with my Crystal for about two months and love them.  I ordered directly from HonsVR and they arrived very quickly with good customer communication throughout the delivery process.  Clarity is great and, with the Crystal, VR has never looked clearer.  There is little space in the face mask and I did install a Samsung Odyssey Plus face pad from VRCover.  You can get the face pad through Amazon.  This face pad solved several problems for me.  It gave me the space for the lenses, eliminated the light leaks I had on the sides of the face mask, was more comfortable, and easier to clean.  I did lose a little FOV, but short of wearing contact lenses you will not be able to get around that.  Eye-tracking and Foveated rendering work flawlessly with the Crystal and HonsVR lenses.  I have the resolution turned up to 200% and now the VR image easily rivals my monitor.  I too came from a G2 and the Crystal is DEFINITELY the next generation upgrade to the VR experience.  As with any VR headset I would recommend ordering through a place like Amazon that allows a 30 day "for any reason" return policy.  VR is so personalized it is the only way to ensure a good purchase.  Hope this helps.

It sure does help. Thanks. Makes me a little less worried about buying the Crystal and ordering the lenses. Eventually when the Crystal becomes available in the 'bigger' shops it will be fine to return it in case it won't be satisfactory. The lenses can't be returned, but with your feedback I'll be more willing to risk the 'investment'.

Just got my Crystal in.  replacing a Valve Index.  I do not wear glasses at all but my eyebrows still touch the lenses.  This is very annoying that Pimax has zero distance adjustments.

Can I ask what your prescription is? Just trying to get a sense of how thick your prescription lenses are. Mine are -9 and -8 respectively to fairly thick - hence I'm worried about the eye tracking.

My prescription is -5.25 and -4.75.  Pretty thick and I have no problem with eye tracking.

Thanks for the quick response and confirmation. Last question - do you think the Samsung Odyssey face pad you're using gives more space than the 15mm Pimax Facial interface? Or was the 15mm facial interface just not available at the time you were ordering?

In my case, I'm using this one and it's excellent. Fits my head shape well and also makes the battery cover behind the head less uncomfortable.

I have the honsvr lenses and they are great. I did have to buy the 15mm face gasket as I kept knocking one of the lenses off with the thinner one.

I have found that the 15mm gasket doesn't fit my head as well and there is a tiny bit of light leakage at the sides, but I don't even notice once I start flying.

Thanks - looks like HonsVR is the consensus. Its a shame Reloptix don't do Crystal lenses. I use their lenses with the Quest3 and they're a really good product.
