Were the Hind headlights really this dim irl?

Compared to the other soviet modules the Hind headlights seem to be way too dim, to the point it can't even acomplish its main job as landing lights, let alone as search lights.

I know the Hip and Fishbed are old and their headlights might be far from realistic. But still, I think the Hind should be able to illuminate further than my car with its puny halogen lamps.

Here are some screenshot comparisons (gamma=2.8)

Which map is this? I do agree that the old lighting for the search lights in the Caucasus used to be totally unrealistic. But by accident I flew the Hip in a afternoon - dusk - night quickstart mission on the PG map the other day, and I was totally blown away with the change. I just kept flying around testing the search lights in the city and over the ocean until I ran out of fuel.

Cheers!

Screenshots were taken at the Senaki airbase (Caucasus). But this sort of effects should NOT be map dependant (I believe even on PG they should look exactly the same). But as I don't have PG, here is a comparison at the Beirut airport

Hind Off - Hind On - Hip - Mig

For reference que runway number is about 130m away.

Well, if difference of the power in the lamps are simulated, there should be a difference obviously. But the reason I mentioned the PG map, is that it has a new type of lighting implemented that will come to all the other maps.

Will see if I can get some screens from it.

Cheers!

Do you have some kind of mod installed? I don't remember my Mi-8 spotlight ever being that bright (after the EDGE update).

Think it got tweaked some time back, they've been bright for a while.

The Huey and Hind lights have been far too dim for as long as I've owned them unfortunately.

This may be totally un-related but I have just resolved an issue I was having with the harrier TPOD being too dark. After some digging around I found a post that suggested deleting the fxo folder and metashaders2 folder as they had experienced a patch not clearing these folders out.

I deleted them before starting the game - (they are re-created) and the TPOD is now fine I can tun up the brightness/gain to clearly see my targets, perhaps this may be your issue?

Speaking to some of my squad mates in the DangerDogz (www.dangerdogz.com - come check us out) they often delete these two folders before doing an update as a matter of course for this reason.

Visit the Dangerdogz at www.dangerdogz.com. We are a group based on having fun (no command structure, no expectations of attendance, no formal skills required, that is not to say we can not get serious for special events, of which we have many). We play DCS and IL2 GBS. We have two groups one based in North America / Canada and one UK / Europe. Come check us out.
