IrishStarJumper Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) Hello all (1st Post & thread ) Iv tried most of what iv found while searching here. 1 . I can only get Vr to work in DCS ( non MT ) only by launching the game & then closing it. After which then I set up/connecting streaming assistant & Pico4 device & then again opening DCS and the game launches in VR. 2. MT works perfectly in non-VR and Iv tried the above method with DCS MT but the game sits there trying to load. to no avail. (what I'm i doing wrong Q1&2 ) 3. VR with the Pico4 had me blown away but like power you always want more.. Spec of Pc is below and yes I'm pretty light on power but is there anything I should try to keep the picture quality up etc... ( sorry yes that pretty pretty vague , but open to upgrading pc etc ) Edited October 17, 2023 by IrishStarJumper More info PC : MSI B650 TOMAHAWK | AMD Ryzen 5 7600X | DeepCool AS500 Plus | MSI RX6800 | Kingston Fury 32Gb DDR5-5600 | Corsair Mp600 2 x 1TB | PICO4

IrishStarJumper Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Thanks for the reply... I am currently stuck with cable link so VD is out for the mo... is 32g of ram asking to much? I have 64gb and never exceed about 25-28gb. I only play SP though so MP might need more. I bought a 6e router for about £40 from Amazon and it works great. I also use a usb-ethernet adaptor to hardwire the connection to the headset via VD. This provides a very consistent and low latency connection. It adds to the cost of the headset but makes a big difference. With an rx6800 you will probably be limited to Ultra rather than Godlike and will need to be careful with DCS settings. I would recommend using Quad Views Foveated Rendering (https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated) as this works in fixed mode too and can use increase your fps by about 30%. 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). SebastianR Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Try removing: ..\Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\pico_driver.log Then: "The last version of Streaming assistant in high (not ultra), sharp bar at 100, 150mb/s and any usb 3.0 wire was the best and stable image with my pico 4. Also, on headset you must set on battery saver because it’s increased the resolution on the center of image"

mrsylvestre Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) Well, tried that (removing the pico_driver.log and copied your settings) and there is still not love between DCS and Streaming Assistant on my system. DCS remains stuck forever on the first loading screen (DCS World logo) on the desktop until I kill it. If I kill SteamVR instead, DCS resumes loading to a fake VR window on desktop. Very, very strange. It was working when I first installed the Pico 4 months ago, then started acting once in a while on an irregular basis and now it just refuses to go to stage of the Mig Hangar and main menu in the headset. DCS is the only program to act like that. Absolutely no issue on Virtual Desktop with DCS and on Streaming Assistant with other VR games. But thanks for the advice anyway. Hope it helps someone else. Lange_666 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 (edited) Out of my head because i don't have my Pico anymore: For VD I needed to set up a wifi connection first and then switch to a link cable (and then you get a 1200Mhz stable connection). Starting from scratch directly with a link cable didn't work somehow. But once setup, you don't need to repeat this process unless VD loses the link configuration somehow on startup (did happen now and then, never figured out why). There are various video's on how to set it up on Youtube. PS: I don't own a Pico anymore because of the need of running at it's native refresh rate to overcome visual artifacts and that was not possible on my system "all the time in each and every scenario". ASW as a trade off didn't work as good as with the Oculus Rift-S, way to much artifacts compared to the clean Rift-S image. So i send it back. As one can change the battery saver settings on the Pico while streaming from DCS, there is indeed a visible effect. It seems that it changes the FOV and compensates by zooming in/out as the battery saver option is toggled. It is very visible if you do this while in the Mig Hangar looking at the main menu. 5800X3D - 64GB DDR4 - Samsung 990 PRO SSD @ PCI 4.0 x 16 - 7900XTX (6950XT for posts before May 2025) - Pico 4 (VDXR)

The trick, on my PC, is apparently to simply start SteamVR before launching Streaming Assistant. Then connect the client on the Pico 4 to Streaming Assistant and then launch DCS (no command-line options needed). This may seem logical to some but it is counter-intuitive because it is Streaming Assistant that is supposed to launch SteamVR, and it does if SteamVR is not already running, but then when launching DCS it remains stuck on the DCS World logo window on the flat screen. Problem solved, even though the solution is not the most elegant. 5800X3D - 64GB DDR4 - Samsung 990 PRO SSD @ PCI 4.0 x 16 - 7900XTX (6950XT for posts before May 2025) - Pico 4 (VDXR)
