HpReverb G2 goes blank during take off on supercarrier

Hi,

Been flying the hornet off the supercarrier for years now using the G2 with no issues.  Lately though, when I take off from the supercarrier, the headset goes dark for about 10 seconds, then turns back on and all is well for the rest of the mission....and hopefully I have not crashed into the ocean by then...lol..   Other than launching from the super carrier all is well...it never goes dark.  Nothing has changed in the powering of the headset.

My system is a 9900 cpu, 32gb ram, 3080ti graphics card.  Nothing has changed in it recently.  No idea why this is occuring now.  (May be related to the huge drop in price for the varjo aero though....lol).

Just wondering if anybody else has had this issue and found a cause/solution.  Maybe the initial signs of my reverb on its way out?

Thanks in advance,

tim

I had my Reverb start to go dark, but it normally coincided with me looking in certain directions (ie, up high, or down behind me, etc). Ended up being the cable on it's way out. They are unfortunately the weak link when it comes to HP.

However in your case, I don't know if this is the case, as you'd be looking ahead both times, and not moving during launch. The fact that it's happening consistently and at the same time, and only during that part makes me wonder if this is like the 'g-force black out' bug I experienced a while ago in the F14 - if there's something in the mission or the trim or the way you're launching (or the DCS update) that could be causing this.

A couple of things you can try to narrow it down:

1) Posting a track file here to see if other people can run it and whether they get the same result as you

2) Try rolling back to Stable Release if you're running Open Beta and try again and see if the problem persists, or goes away

Is your volume at 100% or very high in the G2, there used to be a G2 bug regarding high volume and black screen.

There's a bug fix firmware for the G2 with the audio issue.
"Resolves a potential issue where displays may flicker or go black when playing certain titles at high volume levels."

Hi Buzzer1977, The Honorable BigNewy, and Dangerzone,

Thank you for your replies...sorry it took me a while to respond back...been pretty busy the last week or so...

I updated to 2.9 and that seems to have fixed the blackout on carrier take off....  But I noticed that if I follow a missle or bomb down to the target until it explodes, the same thing happens when it explodes...first one eye black, then both for a few seconds, then it goes back to normal.  Im not sure if that was there before or something new since I usually just observe the impact with the tpod...as long as I just do that, everything is fine.  Not a big deal at all compared to the blackout on carrier launch....that was kind of difficult to avoid...

I dont think my volume level is up around 100% but I will check it out.  Ive had this reverb for a few years now and dont remember ever changing the volume since original ser up...and this just started recently.  All I do is fly DCS with it, nothing else.  Could be the Reverb is just getting tired I suppose.  Might be time to take advantage of the large price drop in a Varjo!

Thank you again for the responses, I really appreciate the help.

Two other common things that cause similar issues:

1.) Reduce the framerate in Windows Mixed Reality settings from 90Hz to 60Hz. If your system can't feed the G2 reliable with the high 90Hz framerates in all conditions, the G2 goes black.

https://forum.dcs.world/topic/328615-reverb-g2-goes-blank-when-dcsmt-is-under-load/#comment-5243131

2.) If this doesn't help, try a new G2 cable.

The 6m long G2 cable maxes out all signal specs, so a sharp bend in the cable or a bad contact in some positions might cause a black out too.

Hi Buzzer1997...

I tried your suggestions....turn down volume and install the new G2 firmware....

Seems to have fixed the problem.  Flew a couple single player missions last night and was able to take off from the carrier, launch weapons and follow them all the way to the target with the F6 view with no issues or black outs.  Curious that after a couple years of using the G2 these problems would suddenly arise with no setup changes but no matter, seems to be fixed now.  Things happen.

Regarding my cable....after going through a lot of cable drama with the HP G1, I treat it as if made from fine, delicate crystal!

So thank you once again for your excellent suggetions!
