Mavkruger Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I can't use pod in A/A or nav, it stay's on idle. when i click on the "idle" osb i have nothing, if i do hit in A/G, the pod work normaly.
BigBorner Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 That’s how it is intended to. Turned out, pod does not have AA functionality IRL, so they removed it a few updates ago.
aeikme Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Hi, as far as I know (checked today with a Jf17 pilot) pod does work in A2A in real life!! 1

aeikme Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 (edited) thanks for responding. So you mean to say that ASELPOD has AtoA functionality and WMD7 (the DCS one) doesnt? [The WMD7-ASELPOD differentiation wasn't specifically mentioned when this question was asked from the real guy] Edited April 13, 2024 by aeikme 1

[The WMD7-ASELPOD differentiation wasn't specifically mentioned when this question was asked from the real guy] No, i wanted to say that although the pilot might have told the truth, that does not necessarily mean that taking away that capability from the WMD7 might have been an error. I dont know what the Aselpod is capable to do, but considering Pakistan and, i think, nigeria switching to them, there might be a reason.

The manufacturer explicitly mentions A/A modes for the Aselpod. Now, from my understanding the WMD-7 is literally the same pod. I realize that the sensor has a slightly different camera setup, though. A bit of clarification from DEKA would be highly appreciated. I leave a picture from the unclassified brochure here so you can see for yourself. Thank you. 1
Schmidtfire Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 (edited) This brochure specifically mentions targets on the ground or sea surface. WMD-7 is the Chinese successor to their FILAT pod (FILAT is the Chinese equivalent of the LANTIRN) . Carried by attack aircraft such as Q-5 and JH-7. From what I understand WMD-7 or FILAT is not carried by fighters, therefore maybe no need for A/A capability? Aselpod is a different pod, developed and manufactured in Turkey. So what It can't and can't do is not relevant to the WMD-7. @uboats or Deka can probably elaborate more. But I think it is correct with no A/A mode, unless Deka decides to add the Aselpod as an option Aselpod most likely has somewhat different functionality, menu items and a different display elements compared to to WMD-7, so would be a bit of work to get it into the sim correctly. This is quite an interesting topic, actually. I read about the FILAT pod being the potential predecessor but I am not really convinced. Other sources do indeed claim there was a cooperation between CATIC and Aselsan. The „source“ you seem to use is Wikipedia so take the information with a grain of salt. But that’s actually not the point. Even the 1st generation FILAT pod was said to have „some“ A/A-capability. The 2nd generation FILAT was even said to have enhanced A/A-capability due to a much improved sensor system with better cameras. Wikipedia even backs this information up, by the way. You might have read that. So whatever is true, we certainly still have to talk about the A/A-capability of the WMD-7 which should have it available if I interpret the accessible information correctly. And just to make this very clear. In case DEKA has better and definitive information about said capability not being there I am fine with it, too. I just want some clarification because I just recently started flying the JF-17 again and I was quite a bit confused about this feature suddenly missing. So yeah, I would surely appreciate if @uboats could elaborate a little bit on that topic. Thank you.
