I have created a mission in the mission editor, where i basically have put an airplane group of to TF-51 on the Sukhumi-Babushara air field. and unit 1 is set to skill "Player" (so I'm flying the lead plane)

I have also checked that

  • Radio is check
  • Frequency is 124 MHZ AM

And in the radio settings tab i have:

  • Channel A is 124 MHz AM (group frequenzy)
  • Channel B is 129 MHz AM (air-field frequenzy)

When i start the mission, i can fly and control my aircraft But, when i press the button on the throttle, the radio menue does not show up (like it does on the training-missions.

Am I missing something in the mission editor?

I have the radio on and everything!

Thanks in advance!

This thread belongs rather to TF-51 section of the forum, but while we're at it there indeed seems to be somthing iffy going on with TF radios in the latest OB version of the game. When attempting to replicate the issue reported above I've noticed that waypoint and radio tabs are completely missing in the editor for TF, while they're there for standard Mustang. Screenshots and the mission file below. @Flappie, can you replicate on your PC?

Thanks for answering! (and my appoligizes for posting on the wrong part of the formu!)

That is strange, i have both the waypoint-tab and the radio-tab but not the second-from-last-tab:

But thanks for letting me know that it is probably a bug and not something I'm missing!

That's even more strange. I'll try again later, with all of my mods disabled (although none of the ones I use should affect TF-51, at least not in theory).

Attach your mission please, I'll take a look at it if mine ends up being borked.

EDIT: Mods turned off, apart from custom skins in Saved Games. No change - can place TF on the map as my plane, but radio and waypoints tabs remain missing.

Got it. Strange things happen still. While trying to load your mission for the first time, the game displayed the message that TF-51D module was required as if I didn't have it installed (yet I do). It loaded eventually, but waypoints and radio tabs were still missing, and so were all external aircraft textures for that matter (you chose "bare metal" scheme, didn't you?). What's more puzzling is - when I replaced the plane with payware Mustang, tabs didn't reappear either.

Doing slow repair and cleanup procedure now, will see how the game responds later.

Thanks!

I don't remember what skin I choose, the game is still new to me, so I mostly go for defaults, but may change a thing here or there if I can figure out what they mean 🙂

Is the slow repare and clean up a procedure for dcs or windows? Should I also try it? Or should I start with a new mission?

Thanks again!

It's for the standalone version of the game from ED website. Equivalent of file integrity check used by Steam.

I've done it and still noticed the same problem, so don't know what's going on here. More thorough testing is going to be required.

On the flip side, radio comms with AI planes and ATC are quite simplified in DCS anyway so you're not  really missing much because of this yet-to-be-identified glitch. Enjoy flying and don't think too much about bugs 😉 .

EDIT P.S. - If you're new, but very much into proper setting up radios and whatnot (and it seems you do If you made an effort to check correct frequencies), just remember a few DCS basics in general:

a) Channels need to be set up and radios operated properly if Easy comms is turned OFF in DCS gameplay/realism options;

b) You can contact ATC and ground crews only on airfields belonging to the same coalition colour as yours (blue on blue, red on red);

c) comms command ("/" by default) works only on the ground, with canopy open (it's supposed to represent pilot shouting rather than using radio). When flying though, the actual push-to-talk command ("Alt /" by deault) must be used, together with radio correctly configured and turned on.

Thanks!

I'm still figuring out what kind of balanse I want between realism and "just working" 🙂

But since the radio did not work, I looked into it!

Thanks for the tips, and let me know if you find any bugs that I might have discovered 🙂
