NightHawk1867 Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Proper Royal Canadian Air Force Rank Insignia. Hi could DCS update the Royal Canadian Air Force ranks to the proper RCAF blue insignia. DCS has the old yellow ranks from the days when the Canadian Forces was combined 1968-2014 approx. RCAF adopted blue ranks around 2014. Naval ship borne aircraft, helicopters, are crewed by RCAF crew so no need to worry about Royal Canadian Navy ranks. Official RCAF page: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/defence/caf/military-identity-system/air-force-ranks.html Possible RCAF ranks with the King's crown: https://www.deviantart.com/dragon-of-ra/art/Royal-Canadian-Air-Force-WWIII-992514401 If you want to geek out on the RCAF this wiki page has a lot of into and a section with large pictures of modern RCAF ranks; https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Canadian_Air_Force https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Armed_Forces_ranks_and_insignia For the Brits. explainer on King Charles Tudor Crown for Royal Air Force https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/his-majesty-the-kings-coronation-heralds-a-new-era-for-raf-uniforms/ Canada has adopted the 'Canadian Royal Crown' to represent King Charles III. This crown will begin to appear on all Canadian forces, army, navy, air force and the RCMP and most police services over time. Details in the links. https://www.gg.ca/en/heraldry/royal-and-viceregal-emblems/royal-crown. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/royal-symbols-titles/royal-crown-cypher.html Since it will be a long time before King Charles crown becomes common if you wished to stick with Queen Elizabeth's St. Edward crown I think that would be fine and easier. Don't forget to keep the 'CANADA' on officer ranks; officer cadet, 2nd Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel. Canada has had these blue RCAF ranks for 10 years now. upyr1 Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 I believe the RCAF used the same ranks as the RAF until 1968, so why not give Canada a drop-down menu so way the folks flying the Spitfire and Mozzy will have the proper period ranks
Saguanay Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Thats right. Up until amalgamation then everything changed.
NightHawk1867 Posted April 16, 2024 Author Posted April 16, 2024 Hi. Yes the RCAF used RAF ranks from 1924 to 1968, Then amalgamated Canadian Forces ranks 1968-1984, hybrid CAF-RCAF ranks 1984-2014 and current RCAF ranks 2014+. Description of RCAF ranks 1924-2014+ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Royal_Canadian_Air_Force#Ranks_and_uniforms I think DCS generally uses current air force ranks. I believe DCS uses current Russian ranks over Soviet era ranks. And of course use USAF ranks not WW2 United States Army Air Corp. I think we would be better with the current modern RCAF ranks. 1 Canadian . DCS World Open Beta 2.7. Aircraft: Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 K-4 Kurfurst. F/A-18C Hornet, F-5E3 Tiger II.
