  3. Hi. Yes the RCAF used RAF ranks from 1924 to 1968, Then amalgamated Canadian Forces ranks 1968-1984, hybrid CAF-RCAF ranks 1984-2014 and current RCAF ranks 2014+. Description of RCAF ranks 1924-2014+ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Royal_Canadian_Air_Force#Ranks_and_uniforms I think DCS generally uses current air force ranks. I believe DCS uses current Russian ranks over Soviet era ranks. And of course use USAF ranks not WW2 United States Army Air Corp. I think we would be better with the current modern RCAF ranks.
  4. Proper Royal Canadian Air Force Rank Insignia. Hi could DCS update the Royal Canadian Air Force ranks to the proper RCAF blue insignia. DCS has the old yellow ranks from the days when the Canadian Forces was combined 1968-2014 approx. RCAF adopted blue ranks around 2014. Naval ship borne aircraft, helicopters, are crewed by RCAF crew so no need to worry about Royal Canadian Navy ranks. Official RCAF page: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/defence/caf/military-identity-system/air-force-ranks.html Possible RCAF ranks with the King's crown: https://www.deviantart.com/dragon-of-ra/art/Royal-Canadian-Air-Force-WWIII-992514401 If you want to geek out on the RCAF this wiki page has a lot of into and a section with large pictures of modern RCAF ranks; https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Canadian_Air_Force https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Armed_Forces_ranks_and_insignia For the Brits. explainer on King Charles Tudor Crown for Royal Air Force https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/his-majesty-the-kings-coronation-heralds-a-new-era-for-raf-uniforms/ Canada has adopted the 'Canadian Royal Crown' to represent King Charles III. This crown will begin to appear on all Canadian forces, army, navy, air force and the RCMP and most police services over time. Details in the links. https://www.gg.ca/en/heraldry/royal-and-viceregal-emblems/royal-crown. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/royal-symbols-titles/royal-crown-cypher.html Since it will be a long time before King Charles crown becomes common if you wished to stick with Queen Elizabeth's St. Edward crown I think that would be fine and easier. Don't forget to keep the 'CANADA' on officer ranks; officer cadet, 2nd Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel. Canada has had these blue RCAF ranks for 10 years now. Thanks, Nighthawk1867.

  6. RCN Scooter livery for Community A-4E Skyhawk by 'bulico' I have the most up to date DCS 2.7 open beta and news A-4E mod v2 (downloaded Jan 07) and began flying again after a long absence. Flew off the USS Forestall and successfully landed on the carrier. I love Canadian content so I tried the RCN livery created by 'bulico' created in Aug 2020 which did work fine but now does not. The words 'missing texture' can be seen on the fuselage and there are rectangle patches like tetris. Any ideas how I could fix? (I know nothing about creating livery files but would really like to this RCN livery working). Link to the original livery here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3312072/ Solution found thanks to 'plusnine' on the a-4e community discord channel. Decided to continue the post to help anyone else with similar livery issues. The solution is to edit the original RCN Scooter livery description file with notepad++ 1. First make a back up copy of your description file and save it somewhere safe. I renamed mine 'rcn scooter description' just to be safe. 2. Find a livery in the A-4E mod package (openbeta/mods/aircraft/A-4E-C/liveries/A-4E-C) and load the 'description' file into notepad ++ 3. I used livery called 'Trainer USN NFWS Gray' 4. For RCN Scooter description replace "Bottom", ROUGHNESS_METALLIC, "fus_bot_v472_RoughMet_hi" with 5. Trainer USN NFWS Gray description "Bottom", ROUGHNESS_METALLIC, "a4e_ext_bottom_RoughMet_lo" 6. For RCN Scooter description replace "Top", ROUGHNESS_METALLIC, "fus_top_v494_RoughMet_hi" with 7. Trainer USN NFWS Gray description "Top", ROUGHNESS_METALLIC, "a4e_ext_top_RoughMet_lo" 8. Save the description file for the RCN Scooter. 9. Test it out. Hopefully it works for you. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Original RCN Scooter with 'missing texture' Fixed RCN Scooter with edited description using files from 'Trainer USN NFWS Gray'

  8. DCS Crashing on 2nd mission load: Once a again a potential success in resolving DCS crashing on second mission load but don't get too excited. Did a DCS repair and restarted the pc then went into settings and turned off SSAA SSLR SSAO. Restarted the pc then loaded DCS and was able to load 3 instant action missions in a row, exited the ran DCS again and loaded another 3 instant action missions. Think there is somebody in the thread above who did this and it worked for them. Note that my clouds are set to low. SSAA Super Sample Anti-Aliasing [may have been turned off already as MSAA on]. SSLR Screen Space Local Reflections. SSAO Screen Space Ambient Occlusion [new to DCS 2.7 and NOT in manual. Involves the GPU and real-time ambient occlusion. Whatever that means?]. Time will tell. Update: Lasted less than an hour then 2nd mission crashes continued. Below is my options screen to provide a visualization. Settings are bottom left.
  9. May take some witchcraft to solve this mind boggling DCS crashing puzzle.

  11. DCS crashing on 2nd mission load. Somebody created a Facebook poll this issue but so many do not use FB. This is a simple poll creation website that is accessible to everyone if somebody wants to create a poll and share on discord. https://www.strawpoll.me/

Yes it does look a little odd. The creator probably did a bit of copying and pasting from other skins.

  13. Re DCS crashed on 2nd mission loading. May 16 3pm. Sadly these crashes have returned. It is really really frustrating. I read Ironhand's recent comments here and the solution seems to be beyond us. Given this is a major beta update to DCS a stealth glitch was to be expected. But I did have a good time flying around in a public server last night. I have enclosed my log from the most recent crash on May 16. If it helps great. dcs.20210516-191628.log
  14. Re DCS crashes on loading 2nd mission: May15 9am. After disabling and uninstalling Tacview and restarting pc I successfully loaded 6 instant action missions in a row this morning. 2xF15, 4xA10, 2xF18. Hopefully this has resolved the issues on my pc. The version of Tacview I had was released pre DCS 2.7 open beta. A new update for Tacview is in beta testing so I will wait till that is released. Now I will continue some testing and increase my clouds which I had set to LOW quality. Then begin adding trusted aircraft mods (A4, MB339, A29A).
  15. Re DCS crashes on 2nd mission: It was suggested that I disable Tacview which I did. I was then able to run 5 short instant actions missions in a row. We'll see how this goes. I have uninstalled Tacview [There is a new update to Tacview in beta testing so I will wait till that is out before re-installing]
  16. DCS Crashing on 2nd Mission Sad to say that on second set of test DCS crashed on loading of second mission. Back to troubleshooting.
  17. DCS Crashing on 2nd Mission. "May 14 8am Success [Hopefully] Completed 6 simple instant actions missions. Pre-start: Deleted all fxo and metashader files. restarted pc. loaded dcs. Reduced Clouds to LOW. Was able to complete 6 missions. After each mission, completely ended mission and went to main menu. At main menu followed Flappie's advice below and opened options and clicked 'OK'. After 6th mission exited dcs. Missions: 4x F15C takeoff A.D. persian gulf. 1x F5E free flight caucasus. 1x F5E take off caucasus. Will do further testing later." [See my main post for updates] Will do more tests later. Sad to report that on next set of tests DCS again crashed on loading of 2nd mission. [Update May 14 1:45pm local]

  19. Troubleshooting problematic crashes of DCS 2.7.

  20. DCS Crash on 2nd Mission DCS standalone open beta 2.7. My System: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB RAM, Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT, 2x 1TB M.2 SSD cards. May as well join the party. I have been living through DCS crashed for the last 2 weeks and they do seem to start at '2nd mission crashes.' Have discussed this on discord at ED and GR and followed through on many recommendations including remove all 3rd party mods, slow repair, clean-up and some of 'Flappie's' guidance in his May 2nd post on this thread. No avail. I have sent all my crash reports to DCS, there have been 12 of them in the last week. Crashes tended to continue after second mission and crashed at random points in mission. I have looked over the logs though I am not sure what I'm looking for. All seem to have a load of warnings and errors regarding can't open files at 'bazar/shaders/enlight...' But this seems to have occurred before the first mission. I also looked over the 'dxdiag.txt' file and there were 9 'windows error reports.' 3 were related to DCS. May12 crash event after doing all the troubleshooting. First mission was instant action with F5E ready for take-off in Caucasus, flew around fired rockets and guns at ships had a successful landing. Second mission was instant action with SU33 land at carrier on Caucasus map. DCS crashed while loading. May 12 second attempt. Loaded F5E instant action take off Caucasus mission, flew around then landed. Crashed as aircraft parachute did not open. Exited mission did the Flappie settings OK. Second mission was a repeat of first, DCS crashed as loading. May 13 7am crash: Mission one F5E instant action take off caucasus, flew around and landed. Mission two F5E instant action take off caucasus, DCS crashed on loading mission. [This morning I increased the pagefile 8GB-16GB on C drive, activated D drive pagefile system managed 6GB, current allocation is 14GB. I have 32GM ram. Followed Flappie's advice below]. May 14 8am Success [Hopefully] Complete 6 simple instant actions missions. May14 1:45pm local Sad to say that on further tests DCS again crashed on loading 2nd mission. May14 4:30pm local. It was suggested I disable Tacview which I did. I was able to run 5 short instant action missions in a row. Time will tell. May15 9am. After disabling and uninstalling Tacview and restarting pc I successfully loaded 6 instant action missions in a row this morning. 2xF15, 4xA10, 2xF18. Hopefully this has resolved the issues on my pc. Some of Flappie's suggestions that I have followed where possible: Flappie Suggestions I will try to remember this advice from Flappie. [Does not appear to have helped]
