AciD.ve Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Hi, after searching a lot of threats without finding my problem, i need to ask... My settings on Bs are full R. but with unlimited Ammo. My problem is, after some guided Msl (sometimes more, sometimes less), the target is locked, C shows up, but the msl falls to the ground like their is no laser anymore. After that, i cant look on any targets. Resetting the Laser, Weapons doesnt work. The Cannon can still firing on targets. When this happens, the Heli pitch heavy to the left side when firing a msl, and drift out of my stable Hover mode. Any Idea whats going wrong or is it a bug in my "Cheat mode"? Thx for helping me
EtherealN Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 The heli pitch thing confuses things, but you can burn out the laser if you overuse it, which I suspect you would be more likely to do if you play with unlimited ammunition since you would not have the same motivation to be conservative with your ammunition and locking. Basically, if you lock too many times in a short amount of time, the laser can get burned out and it would then not designate targets properly and you can see similar behaviours. I don't recall the exact tolerances but a search should be able to locate it. This is basically a problem in the real thing that has been modelled in the simulator. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
AciD.ve Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Thx for the answer. Its a good point to think about it.
nemises Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 There is a huge thread and discussion about this exact problem. Still not 100% clear if it is hapenning "as planned" or if there is a bug, but I know the ED guys were looking at it and could replicate. You can avoid the problem by turning the laser into standby between targets , or at least between groups of targets I believe. Unsure about the heli listing, unless you are launching BIG ordanance , in which case it is the weight distribution imbalance.
EtherealN Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 It is confirmed that there is a bug in it and ED has been able to replicate it and I believe the upcoming patch includes a fix for that. The problem though is that the methods for getting a "proper" malfunction and the steps to awaken the bug are somewhat similar, so it's not always easy to know if the problem one has is the bug in DCS or DCS correctly modeling problems with the real thing. (I'd have hated to be the Q&A guy tasked to dig that bug up...) Basically though, when I use the targeting designator I tend to basically use it as little as possible. I usually have the laser itself on off when just scanning the battlefield with my Shkval, and it is only when I have identified targets that I have decided to engage that I even put it in standby. I then verify that the range is within engagement parameters and proceed with deployment. When the engagement is complete (be it a singular target or a group), I shut the laser off. This usually works quite well for me and it is only on stupidly long missions that I end up with laser designator issues. LazerPotatoe Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 If the laser designator is damaged, shouldn't there be an indicator light, or some indication? LP modules: F5-E / A4-E / A-10A / AJS-37 / SA-342 / UH-1H / Ka-50 / Mi-8 / CA would buy: OH-58 /AH-64A / AH-1 / Sepecat Jaguar / F-111
Frederf Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I don't think there's a failure indication in the real Ka-50 cockpit but that has nothing to do with how ED would track down this behavior. A programmer simply runs a text overlay outputting the state variables that would normally be hidden from the player.
docehrenhoefer Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I quote "shkval mailfunction" No, you definitely cannot use shkval to send letters. Only the ones you paint on it. *big grin*
AciD.ve Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 After checking the manual, again :), ive found something about the shkval parameters on side 13-3. Ive got the German Version, so maybe its not the same as in other manuals. Its about 5 series and 16 cycles the laser work. Between the series their`s a break about 30min. Maybe he shuts off for his cooldown time. But iam not sure.
