Bomb rack?

I was just shifting through some pictures of F4U and came across this F4U-1D (In the tri/four colour scheme no less) but what is on the right hand hard point?

Is it a bomb rack extender or something else entirely?

That must be a -1D built by Vought.  It's still using the old Prop paddles, before switching to the wider ones around build numbers 57000.
From the VF-65.  'F' for Fighter. 

Im not sure what that device is on the pylon.  It could be a data collector, a small case for tools, or even a smoke generator.

I think I may have found it.  It might be another bomb rack that carries practice bombs
