Ecnatalausio Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 (edited) Hello I just purchased this mod, I'm unable to get ranging information on the HSI when using VOR. The list of features says "VOR/DME" but apparently I can only activate VOR and not DME. I tried a text search for DME on the manual and the only related thing I found was on page 81: NOTE: In the case of a VOR/TAC or VOR/DME station, the distance can be displayed on the HSI by use of the TACAN system. But I can't understand what exactly I'm supposed to do. I tried Latakia and Rafik Hariri But I could not get the DME to work. Does the aircraft have DME? Am I missing something? IvanK Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 IRL you can get DME from a VORDME system using TACAN if you Tune the TACAN station to the Paired VORDME channel. Every RW VORDME station has this functionality. The issue I believe in DCS is that even those stations listed in game as VORDME are in fact only straight out VOR stations without the DME component. 1
6S.Duke Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Exactly...In the current release the only bug on VOR and Tacan is the fact that the deviation show the true heading instead of the magnetic. The bug anyway has been already solved and the fix will be available as soon as possibleInviato dal mio ASUS_I005D utilizzando Tapatalk 1 1 MB339 EFM Coder Frecce Tricolori Virtuali [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
gulredrel Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Caucasus map only has VORs without DMEs. In South Atlantic there are some real VOR/DME stations. For example Punta Arenas on 114.100 MHz. Corresponding TACAN frequency is 88X. In C-101EB, you can tune VOR for the heading information and TACAN: Or in C-101CC (which does not has TACAN) you can tune just 114.10 MHz and setting DME on the VOR receiver to get heading and ranging information. Doing the same in MB-339 you can also receive the ranging information with 88X on the TACAN receiver and have the 114.10 MHz on the VOR. Problem is, HSI will only show either heading information, when VOR is selected as NAV source (large picture below, heading, but distance indicator striped with no indication) OR ranging information, when TACAN is selected as NAV source (inset picture below, I'm less than a mile away from the VORDME, so it shows 0 NM). You can't have both at the same time. But as MB-339 has GPS/INS system, you can show distance information on one of the data pages of the NAV display. 2
IvanK Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) Good find Gulredrel. works a treat at Punta Arenas So went looking for more. Interestingly enough Ushaia in the Editor has 113.7 with 84 the correct TACAN pairing even shown. Though the Mission Editor symbol shows it as a VOR only station. Tuning TACAN to 84X confirms it as VOR only no DME . Edited December 5, 2023 by IvanK 1
Ecnatalausio Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Ok, it works perfectly, no issues at all with the MB339 or any of the aircraft and maps I tried. Reading other posts it looks like the possibility of pairing a TCN receiver with the DME from a VOR was introduced with 2.9, anyway it works like a charm. In some maps, like South Atlantic and Sinai, the channels are shown after the beacon frequency, otherwise a table like the one IvanK posted is a must have. 1
gulredrel Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 I've put such a TACAN frequ. pairing sheet in the saved games kneeboard folder, so it will be available on any map and aircraft. 1
