Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 command sets as far as actual radar scanning?

Radar Stick Vertical

Radar Elevation

Why does scan elevation change how fast my sweep bar goes back and forth?

Again I understand there is probably a difference using Mavericks but what about the actual radar... seems they do the same thing to me.

I would not mind a crash course in HOW to use a radar... I am very new to this.

Can someone tell my why I would not want to go full gain all the time? Seems to give a much clearer picture.

Thank you.

This is the command binding to move the radar cursor up & down.

This instead moves the radar scanning cone up & down, allowing to use the radar to search for aerial targets instead of ground targets.

Never noticed this, will test it tonight.

because you lose faint details, at higher gains items like runways cant be seen clearly. i use full gain when locating ships and for terrain avoidance mostly.

As the antenna goes to the extreme upper and lower elevations it is constrained by the shape of the round nosecone, so it sweeps a shorter left-right distance.
