DCS crashes in  VR (flat works)

I had such problems (DCS crashing), and I already stop playing DCS about a year ago. Now I have new PC, new windows (11), and I have crashes again...

My hardware: VR Pimax Crystal, I5 14600k (water cooled), Nvidia 3090, RAM 32GB (2x16 DDR-5, XPS enabled in UEFI), SSD, Win 11 64bit, Be quiet 1000W power, MBO ASRock Z790 Phantom Gaming Lightning (14th gen.,ddr5, 7200)

VR resolution is huge with Crystal (ca 4500x5100 per eye or more), but with quadviews it is really fast (5x  less pixels rendered). I tried several times single player (it was working beautifully and fast, almost 90fps all the time). But then there were more and more crashes, and now almost every time on entering a map or server, in a several seconds. It crashes with or without quadviews. Often it is when I turn my head to the other side (the game needs to render new stuff), or when I open mirrors. Often even if I do nothing, just enter the map, and look straight, it crashes in a few seconds too.
Other VR games work well, most of the time (99%). Some with much more rendered pixels. Pavlov VR works with quad views too, but without crashes...

What I already tried, and it didn't help:

check temps (cpu and gpu 60-70max)
hyperthreading off
nvidia latest driver
windows updates - latest
reinstalling some MBO drivers again after win update made them incompatible
disable overclocking (undervolting actually)
renamed saved games folder
DCS repair game
DCS uninstall, erase saved games, new install
win pagefile on ssd, 16384MB fix
win pagefile on ssd, 32768MB fix
no quad views in VR
reduced graphic resolution (on 20% of my usual) in VR
changed preload radius, visibility settings (small, medium, large...)
changed delay of headset before calling crash/shutdown to 60sec -> No change, it crashes in a several seconds as before
     ( https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/k0wi2r/possible_fix_for_your_dcs_crashes_found_on_the_ed/ )
Geforce Experience disable (it was disabled already, I just check it)
Nvidia control panel, 3D settings - reset to default
RAM check with win11 built-in tool

Please somebody help me with DCS logs (attach). Or please write if you have any idea what to do.

PS: I play only MT version - I do not know any more how to start single threaded version with openxr.

Good, as long as your GPU is not powered through a surge protector, this should not be a concern.

Your should check your memory using MemTest86, because it is far more reliable than Windows memory test utility.

You can also try this solution:

Hi again, I did all of it, didn´t help me.

- MemTest86 - no errors

- HPET - first linne can not be executed (I do not have that something on pc, second line executed). didn´t help.
bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock
bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

- HAGS disabled in a device manager (same in win settings)

- Win power settings are on high performance

PS: Why in my logs after clean install I have many errors with "textures not found"? Is that a clue?

I also have a few "texture not found" errors. This is normal.

Does it help if you use DCS default "VR" setting? (click "VR" then press "OK").

I forgot to write, I have 2 internal fast ssd-s (one is M.2, it looks like ram stick, another is 1-2 years old small brick with size like smartphone). I tried game on booth disks, no change...

PS: after every "solution" which I try, there is sometimes briefly hope, as occasionaly I can enter and play some map. It is so beautiful, a breathtaking game.... But then again game breakes without any explanation.

Update; a friend of a friend suggested that I might put much more virtual memory then my 32GB, as I have huge resolution (I did have crashes with low resolutions too, but...);

With 64GB I was entering yesterday some maps without crashes, which usually crash fast. I need more testing now.

EDIT: no, it still crashes. Even had 2x BSOD. But game is beautifull...

128GB virtual memory - 3 flights were OK, and then again crash....

New nvidia driver today, still crashing...

PS: my pimax crystal works with 120Hz mode - If I limit game to 60 fps then I have less crashing; with 90 or 120 fps I have more crashing.

Maybe the Crystal cable is faulty (I had one fail with my 8KX). I would also clear out your NVIDIA cache if you have not done it for a while which may help.

ignore the sim it’s the Nvidia guidance that’s the important bit. HTH

Also check your cable connections and that you have a good power supply to the headset the provided USB hub can be iffy. Again alternative powered USB hubs are available and YouTube videos are helpful. HTH

Afer latest nvidia update I had different problems, at one occasion I got windows error mesage that access to GPU was forbidden for DCS... It happened midflight,  and game was frozen. After several restarts, erasing nvidia cache (thx @Nuggetz), and suddently I was able to fly.

I tried my test map, which breakes game in seconds; Marrianas, free flight with MIG29s. It was working. Then I tried other maps, was ok. I tried MP server, and it worked. At least 10 sorties/maps, everything was ok.

Until it broke again, random. I will fly more in a next days, but I already had cases when I tune something, game was working several sorties, and then crashing start again.

I hope it will be ok, I already went on game page to choose which plane to buy next, just before that latest crash....

Next time it crashes please could you attach the DCS log file to your post. It will help to see whether the error is caused by the same issue

Posted (edited)

I played some more sorties without crash (hurrey!).

Also I did one last change lately; I set preload radius to minimum (game settings, as I use super fast disk).

Two days without crash! Now it crashed again, after opening mirrors in sp mission. I took back my mods (FC3 cockpit clickable, + 2 helis..). Two days with them, I belive must be something else.

(I write this now just to report log, if crash is something else now)

Your sound sources in the log file mention an Oculus virtual device as well as Pimax. Do you still need Oculus?

Not saying this is causing your issue.

Hi Horn, reacently I installed Oculus software again on my new PC, as I have some games on their store. But for DCS I use PimaxXR, OpenXR_Toolkit - that is pure OpenXR.

I had one more crash, and ca 10 sorties without problems.

I'd like to ensure no external process is responsible for your issue. Can you please send me your process list?

  1. Open a "cmd" window.
  2. Run this command: tasklist > mylist.txt
  3. You'll find a "mylist.txt" file under "C:\Users\your-login\".
