Fliehender Fuchs Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 (edited) I've got everything for ACLS in order, like the TACAN, ILS, ACL, Datalink and so on. And I did engage ATC CPL P/R successfully 6 nm away from the carrier, and the descent was smooth and pleasant for most of the time. But just as I got really close to the carrier (like 0.5 nm), the autopilot suddenly gave me strange pitches, and got me landing heavily in front of the first wire. So by the time I went into the landing area, I was level on my three wheels, with the hook in the air, resulting in a failed landing. To make things clearer, I was flying the Case III recovery singleplayer mission in the Persian Gulf. Here is a track of what happened (I sped up the initial descent a bit). autoland.trk Edited April 4, 2024 by Fliehender Fuchs
Fliehender Fuchs Posted April 11, 2024 Author Posted April 11, 2024 An update: I deleted the Hornet that was supposed to land on the carrier about 10 minutes before me, and ACLS landing became successful. So I guess the problem lies with the turbulence. It's surprising that there would still be turbulence on the deck after such a duration.
ED Team Lord Vader Posted April 11, 2024 ED Team Posted April 11, 2024 Hey @Fliehender Fuchs That could be the case, as well as blurb turbulence caused by the carrier deck and island. Anyway, I'm glad you had it sorted. Feel free to report any further issues you may encounter. Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
Rankorn Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 This also happens to me, as the ACLS will not be accurate enough to catch the wires and the LSO calls to bolter. I am wondering if I need to disengage the auto pilot when I call the ball and just continue with manual landing.. is this something that should be done?
PawlaczGMD Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Also having issues with ACLS, I think that it either can't handle turbulence/burble, or the burble is too strong. ACLS will sometimes rapidly pitch up and down just before touchdown. This has resulted in no trap and also broken gear a couple of times. The approach was stable, it just went crazy at the end. If the ACLS breaks your gear, I would say it needs to be looked at. 1
JeffreyC Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Noticed the same still persists when trying it last night. ACLS brings in in long and misses the wire after bouncing. Has been a problem since the flight model improvements. Something seems to need to be tweaked with the new parameters.
Savagebliss Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I am having trouble getting the ACLS to couple with the ship. I have reviewed "Wag's" Tut on youtube many times. I have tried stock and private missions, as well as built my own. In Wag's video he is told to fly mode 2, but flys mode 1 anyway. He does not use a switch or command to change modes. On a user night mission the acl locks on and displays mode 1. ATC tells me to fly mode 2. It will not CPL in any version of a Case 3 mission I have tried. Is there a known bug? I have a Real life Commercial Pilot Lic. I have had DCS 15years and a bit. I have been sim flying since the Black and white Microsoft from the late 80's. "Mac in a backpack" I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football Lucy is holding.

He does not use a switch or command to change modes. The carrier atc ai is basically irrelevant as it's the same lines that it's always used since the release of supercarrier. It has zero impact on the function of ACLS. There is no mode switching. It's all based on the ACLS, which acquires and locks on at 6 miles and will indicate "ACL RDY MODE 1 on the link 4 page. AFTER the lockon is when you engage coupled autopilot and it will go into P/R mode. If you're using the coupled heading mode on the approach before ACLS lockon you have to disengage CPL and rengage it for it switch to P/R. Reproduce it and post the track here in the thread. I cannot do much diagnosing otherwise. 2

I don’t have a track at hand, but I would manage to get one if necessary.
miguelaco Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I've provided a trackfile in another thread showing the issue:
