Hey..

i have crystal few days and today i have first fly in night. Im very disapointed. Night si grayed, cockpit is greyed.. looks like run only in 6 bit colors or less. Especiali in gradient from sunset to dark. tryed play with contrast and brightnes in Pimax App and gama in DCS, but image still looks bad. My previos headset was G2 and night image was much much better... what is wrong? in day everything looks good and perfect.

you have to adjust the local dimming.  The default creates a glow/fog/halo effect around the backlights especially.   Once you adjust local dimming and turn the brightness knobs down, it will look better.  Not OLED quality, but much better than you see now.  Note that you can turn down the local dimming further in the config file below than you can in pimax play.

Look for C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Local\Pimax\runtime\profile.json

Change local_dimming_black_level to .005   (or something else that's suitable for you.)

Thx man for response, but this is not what i talking about, Everone on YT talking about super black on pimex, but this is much worse like G2. I try played witch COntrast, Brightness and gamma.. but is not posible peak good image.. Blacks is grayed or light gradient is destroyed. Looks like low color space. Image preview on monitor is ok.  SOmething must be wrong. This is unplayable.

I'll take a look at mine later this week and see if I have some ideas. I don't night fly much in dcs, but I don't remember it looking like that and it definitely doesn't look like that in my civilian sims at night.

you dont need them dute, this is not about settings in DCS or in Pimax. And dont want saturate this topic with things with i already tried.  this problem is on default values too and of course i spent many time playing with contrast, brightness in Pimax Play and Gama on DCS. I need somebody who try night mission and confirm or deny this issue. and send compare screen. My pimex dont show good black even in AIO mode.. so not conected to PC, no DCS etc. this is not about settings. This is sceen through lenses (LEFT) compare with creen from preview PIMAX window on monitor (RIGHT). You can see bad black level liike very high gama, but i cant reduce it. I can moving with contrast and brightnes in Pimax, but dont resolve this problem.

      "local_dimming_black_level" : 0.005

What's so complicated to make some screens of your Pimax Client and DCS settings? I need seconds to do this.

YOU have asked for help. If it's too much for you to make some screens, it's ok, but bro, that's no fun.

I don't get it?

it is not complicated, I know you trying help and thank you, but I'm not sure if you understand that I have a problem on default settings. i restarted PIMAX, tryed AIO mode without cables, another PC wit diferent GPU,  playing days with settings.. problem still here. I dont start thread about this, until I tried all options of Local diming, all setings about contrast and brigthnes and so on. if you want really help me, try what is described above. thats will help a lot. thx man,

I have the exact same problem with my Crystal Light as Dovivan. No amount of reducing local dimming helps. Reducing brightness does improve things a little, but the result is still quite horrible, and certainly not as intended. Dovivan did you ever get it solved?

@Dovivan

I'm curious about that too.

Ok, I figured out my problem. Whenever I change the local dimming value in the Pimax Client setting the profile.json file gets updated with the value "local_dimming_black_level" : 0.9980000257492065. In order words the local dimming gets maxed out, even if I set the value to 0.001 in the Pimax Client.

As long as I do not play with the local dimming value in the Pimax Client, and instead edit the profile.json file it works as it should.

However, I noticed that this did just make the problem less visible at times, but it did not solve the issue. There is still horrible banding in darker colors. Tried it on another computer as well, with a much older version of DCS installed, and the same results. Also with the same weirdness with the profile.json file. I can also see the banding in the default Pimax backgrounds, so it seems to be a headset issue rather than a DCS issue.

Kindly submit a support ticket detailing this issue. The technical support team will provide further assistance shortly.
