shackman Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I read about how to beam a missile when you first detect it go hard 90 to the right or left on your wing to stop the missile's dopplar track. But when I did that the thingslammed right into me. What did I do wrong I went hard 90 and it still hit me how do i evade these? joey45 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 hide. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. "Me, the 13th Duke of Wybourne, here on the ED forums at 3 'o' clock in the morning, with my reputation. Are they mad.." https://ko-fi.com/joey45
slug88 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) This principle only works for radar guided missiles. Was it an IR guided missile? Also, this tactic probably doesn't work against radar guided missiles in a helicopter anyways, because the missile will always see the motion of your rotor blades, irrespective of your velocity with respect to the missile. As for tactics that do work at spoofing radar guided missiles in the Ka-50, there is only "hide", as joey45 said. Generally, if you're in a situation where a radar guided missile has been launched at you, it's probably already too late. Edited April 22, 2009 by slug88 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 A helicopter is not going to reliably defeat missiles through maneuver alone. Some maneuvers can give you slightly better odds, but your odds are never good. So like joey says - put something between you and the missile, like a house or a hill. And do it fast. EDIT: Slug88 also makes some really good points. shackman Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Shit I mean tot put this in the LOMAC general discussion. Sorry. I wasn't flying a helicopter I was flying an Eagle. But is there any other way to defeat the missiles in an Eagle? [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Hahah, ah yeah, that's a slightly different thing. :D Unfortunately I suck at handling fighters - I spent almost all my LOMAC time with the A-10 and (drool) Su-25, so I'd mainly use a lot of terrain there a well. :| [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

But is there any other way to defeat the missiles in an Eagle? In some other thread Crunch has been very kind to give me a link to this site http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/index.html where you can find a lot of useful tutorials and videos about missile evasion tactics and maneuvers and about other important problems like corner speed, etc... I`ve watched some of them and i learned a lot from them. Also if you haven`t watched the tutorials included in the game my advice is - do it. With them and with the ones in flankertraining.com you will have a number of maneuvers to avoid missiles and you will improve your overall air combat performance. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Aeroscout Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 You have to be below the fighter that launched the missile (or below the missile if it's ARH, such as an AMRAAM) I fly the Flanker, but the tactic is still the same. Get down to anywhere from 50 feet to 1000 feel and put the missile on your 3/9 like, aka, beaming it, aka, flying perpendicular to it. To further throw it off, try turning 180 deg. INTO the missile after a few seconds of beaming it. This will put the missile on the opposite side of you, feep you in the same general fighting area to avoid any SAMs that might be near by, and will also have made the missile fly farther. There's no magical method to loose it every time, but this should work a lot of the time. However, as you get close, it gets difficult. The best thing to do in the Eagle is to get up to angels 50 and start dropping slammers on people. Good luck! and don't get discouraged. You'll get it eventually. DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

Aeroscout Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Download the Xvid Codec. It should have been installed with lockon, but maybe it got deleted for some reason. http://www.xvid.org/ EDIT: Just out of curiosity, what version of lock on are you flying? 1.02 or 1.12? There are 2 types of videos in this site AFAIK - 1. the .avi format which i play using Gom Player (a free player which plays almost any formats), 2. some .ogg files which you place in a folder in your main LO folder and which are played in game. In game browse for "track files" in that folder and there will be the video. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

But I have finally found it inside the game but when I lay the mission I'm in control of the aircraft and there is no audio instructions like I hear when i play them from the folder,. Is that the way the missions are supposed to be? The version i have is 1.02 [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]
Aeroscout Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 hmm, try this: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/Downloads/XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe When you go to open the tutorial in game, instead of clicking fly, hit "map" to go to the mission editor and then go to "Flight => Play Track" or press Crtl+P to play the track. Alternatively, you can go to the "show" button on the main menu and navigate to the .trk from there. Well that did make the computer take control by letting it play the rack but all it does is take control and then crash the airplane into the ground? What's up with that? Since you are using 1.02 I will plug Flaming Cliffs. Only $15, get it here http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?lang=en Also, some of the in game training tracks do not play back correctly as they were made in an ealier version. You can get them as avi videos here http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=50
