Somehow I find it impossible to lock these bastards for my gun treatment. Any tips how to deal with these bad rotor heads?

Practice practice practice.

First of you need to select AA mode, and you also may want to select the head-on-aspect mode if they are coming for you. You then line up for the missile or cannon shot as you would against a ground target.

It is very difficult to get the Skhval locking gates properly over a moving air target though, so my recommendation would be to create a map in the mission editor where you have some wings of transport choppers or similar non-dangerous targets, and practice killing them. (Make sure they're enemies though, so you don't end up nuking your pilot score for fratricide.)

EDIT: One further note though - when you lock them up they will get an immediate laser warning. If you want to be a "pro" you can launch it on manual control, targeting slightly to the side of the enemy helicopter, and as the missile closes in you move the gate over the chopper and lock it up. That way they have much less warning and much less chance to perform evasive maneuvers. It is however a more difficult technique so nothing you should start with.

Its hard, but you need to get good with your HMS and be good calculating their trajectory, and having the shkval sensor waiting for them to pass through it.

Easier to do from a hover of course, but then, you are a staionary target and they've probably allready shot you!

Dont bother with vikrs unless they are more than about 4 KM's away and head on, as they can be a bit miss'y on moving targets (use AA target, and forward aspect targetting modes), cannons are your best bet from within that range...

...not that im an expert on it either, but I've shot down a heli or two...

I've only shot down a single enemy attack chopper in the campaigns. :( I've taken down a bunch of transport helos, but almost every single time I spot an attack helicopter and maneuver in for a kill I get to see a nice missile streak from a friendly SAM or friendly helicopter come in JUST as I am getting set to fire.

Friggin' killstealers. :(
