Hi,

The manual is lacking here, quite severely.

After spending an hour trying to figure out why the cockpit was dark, it seems the only thing that works on GPU are a couple of instruments in the front cockpit?

I followed the checklist, operating the ground instrument power switch in the rear cockpit, but absolutely nothing will come alive. I can't align the INS, test lamps, etc.

Radios/intercom starts to work with GPU and I can talk to the Crew Chief and Jester, and start the engines, but that's about all that works.

Did I miss something, or is there a problem? It seems the aircraft should be operable on the ground in this state.

Yes, I set BOTH eng gen switches to EXTERNAL.

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

Did you request via the crew chief for external power to be enabled?

Hi,

Yes, requested external power, and it was connected.

Reading the manual, it seems the systems should be able to be powered via the start cart? It talks about performing an INS alignment while on GPU, and tripping the power during source switching. It makes no mention whatsoever that an engine must be running.

When the following actions are completed:

  • Crew chief connects the external power (ground cart needs short amount of time to spool up before providing power)
  • Both generator switches are set to EXTERNAL
  • Instrument ground power switch is set to TEST
  • INS power control knob is set to STBY

The INS should be powered and the warm-up process should start (provided there is no failure in the aircraft). If those criterias are met and you still don't havbe the INS powered up, that's strange. Could you maybe provide a singleplayer track or a video?

The ground cart supplies 115/200V AC which is distributed through the bus system in the same manner as generator output but with some exceptions. Power won't be applied to the instruments buses and AFCS to reduce components degradation. However you can apply the external power to them by using Instrument Ground Power Switch and Autopilot Ground Test Switch respectively. The first one is need for the INS.
