Captain Chuck Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 For the last couple of weeks the FPS counter says 40 no matter what. Occasionally it will flicker and show 38 for a split second. I was hoping the recent update would fix it ..... but no! No limiters are set for FPS either in DCS or Nvidia. Any clues what to try? Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p
Flappie Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Try this: Browse to "Saved Games/DCS...". Rename your "Scripts" folder to "Scritps_bak". Start DCS, start a mission and check your FPS. ---

FPS just sits there saying 40 Edited May 25, 2024 by Captain Chuck Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p

Captain Chuck Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 I went through that thread and tried everything applicable and still no change for me. I'll try a 3rd party counter and see whar happens. Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p
Flappie Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 I once read a user with a 80 FPS lock got rid of his issue after he uninstalled RivaTuner. If you have this app, it's worth a try. ---
Captain Chuck Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 I read that. I don't have it. Interestingly 3RD PARTY app says "40" too. I wasn't expecting that. Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p
Flappie Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 (edited) if you haven't already, try and rename your whole "Saved Games/DCS..." folder (name it "DCS_bak" for instance), then restart DCS. Does it help? Edited May 25, 2024 by Flappie ---

Does it help? No. That didn't help. But it did make me sign in again to DCS and all my keybindings were gone. So I renamed it back to what it was to get it all back. I haven't done a repair yet I'll do that tomorrow. Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p
Flappie Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Ok. If the repair does not do anything, that would mean your issue comes from an external software/setting. You can ask ED tech support: log into DCS website, click Support, then Create a new ticket. ---
Captain Chuck Posted May 26, 2024 Author Posted May 26, 2024 (edited) I managed to complete a DCS Repair using SkateZilla. It wasn't easy because I already have major PC problems unrelated to DCS. In fact, I may have to buy a completely new PC setup soon. For your information, I am using a Gigabyte Aorus 7 SA 17.3" notebook. It began randomly restarting itself a couple of months ago. Mostly when it becomes hot.... but not always. Mostly while DCS is running after a while. It restarted itself a bunch of times while trying to do the DCS repair. I finally got it done after turning it off for 8 hours. I've tried everything to fix this too. Including, pulling it apart cleaning it, and applying new thermal paste. In fact I've applied new thermal paste three times last week to make sure I was using the correct amount. I've run out of options to do, to fix the random restarts, other than reformatting the OS. Anyway, it seems, no matter how expensive my laptop is, it will need replacing every 3 years.... and I am getting tired of it. Due to circumstances I've had to use a laptop for DCS all these years but circumstances have changed now and I am thinking about buying my first desktop PC rig, ever (I know nothing about them.) At the moment I am just reading reviews of gaming rig setups including monitor size and 1440 vs 1080, which generation core etc....in order to understand what I need or want. EDIT: Oh btw ... I did the full slow repair and DCS FPS counter is still frozen at 40. Edited May 26, 2024 by Captain Chuck Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p

Thank you all for your effort ....... I did find out the solution to this ....sort of..... I'll explain, I updated my Graphics Card and the FPS started working fine right away .... But here's the kicker. I thought I already had updated the Graphics Card along a number of other things a few weeks back. But for some reason it seems that a number of things had reverted back to an earlier version of the drivers. I have no idea how or why that happened. So I am updating everything again. Weird eh! The solution was to Update the Graphics Card Driver. 1 Ryzen 7 7800; GTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; Monitor 27" 1440p
Flappie Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) Thanks for your feedback. I'll add your solution to my "book". Edited May 28, 2024 by Flappie typo 2 ---
kersaint Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Hello, I had the same problem as you, I was stuck at 60 FPS instead of 180 FPS without VR. when I played in VR I was below 20 FPS. I did everything to find the problem without success. And I decided to reset my NVIDIA settings on my graphics card to default, what a joy to have found those 180 FPS and 60 FPS or even 80 FPS in VR (Quest3) and I read your post that you had the same problem as me. All the best. 1 1
