Vidar_K Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Hey. I`ve got a rather bad English but i`ll try to explain my problem. I have just installed the DCS and have tried most of the different tutorials/training sessions. But once im starting av new misson, I allways start the mission hovering 2-3 meters up in the air, i can controll the heli in all directions but not the alltitude. Have tried switching off the flight director and alltitudehold button on the A.P. but no luck. Vidar, Norway
EtherealN Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Your "throttle" control should not be mapped to the throttles as one would do in fixed-wing aircraft, but rather mapped to "Flight Control Collective" under "Axis Commands". Are you flying in Game mode or Real mode? Vidar_K Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Hey, and thanks for a quick answer. Im flying in real mode, maybe i should stick to the easy mode for a while;)
EtherealN Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Nah, Real mode is where it's at. :) Which stick do you have and what have you set your throttle lever to do in the control assignments? Vidar_K Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 I currently use a Logitech Extreme 3D, a standard stick in other words, nothing fancy;) To be honest I havent looked into the control assigments yet. Im a complete rookie to this game.
EtherealN Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Ah, what you probably want to do is to go in under Axis Commands on the Options -> Controls, and find "Flight Control Collective". Then click the box for that one in the column for your joystick and see if you can apply the throttle lever on your stuick to it. On mine it's Joy_Z. That will control the "collective" setting of rotor blade pitch, which will increase or decrease the amount of lift and thereby give you the ability to control your altitude. On helicopters like this you don't control the throttle yourself, but rather there's systems on board that control your throttle for you to maintain a specific speed of rotation. (Higher blade angle and thus more lift requires more power from the engines, and the systems will do it for you.) So not having that assigned is probably the reason behind your problem. Vidar_K Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Still a problem ...now i have tried fixing the joystick but i doesnt seem to be the problem. I still start every mission in a "hover" 2 m over the ground. All of the autopilots and other electronics are disconnected but still i have no control over the altitude... Any tips??
159th_Viper Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Start at the very beginning: Which Mission are you referring to? And you say that you have assigned your Z-Axis to the collective in the Axis control Input screen? Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Vidar_K Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 It pretty much the same what mission I choose. Once i hit the Pause button, the heli lifts to aprx. 2-3 m above the ground and stays there;) and the "throttle" slider on my Logitech joystick has been assigned to the collective.
Safari Ken Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Im flying in real mode, maybe i should stick to the easy mode for a while;) I'm against the notion that "easy" modes help learn anything. Stick to real mode, frequent the forums here, practice practice practice, and above all, don't get discouraged. Easy mode, just like auto-exposure on your camera, simply reinforces bad habits, and doesn't do anything to teach you anything. And anyway, if one wanted to fly in Easy mode, why buy a PC in the first place? :D
159th_Viper Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Post a Track - be sure to move the Collective Up and Down so it is clear on the track that the Input is registering in the Cockpit.....very strange this - I'm Intrigued! GGTharos Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Post a track please. Edit: Ninja'd by the Viper!!! O.o 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
EtherealN Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 One note - did you say you start on the ground but immediately rise 2-3 meters and then you cannot control it anymore? I have noticed that unless I run my collective through it's full range of motion it will sometimes default to a couple degrees positive, causing the aircraft to want to lift, but usually it only occurs when I move the collective, like so: 1) Starting on the runway, engines on. I start the simulation with the pause/break. 2) It sits there nicely. 3) The exact split second that I breathe on the collective, it slams into 6 degrees or so and rises - unless I very quickly move it through it's full motion and back again. The way out of that for me is to just move the collective before I start the simulation, so as to sort of remind the controller of what range of motion it has and where in that range it currently is. It might be that you get the same thing of a slight high input, causing you to rise, but through it not accepting collective input from your stick you don't get a chance to reset it.
