Yhea the AIM-54 behavior in TWS is sucktastic.

It has made some campaign missions basically unplayable.

I guess asking ED to fix anything is just too much these days.

@BIGNEWY can you get the team to have a look at this when they get a chance, the AIM54 (A in my case) seems to be going dumb still in TWS

It seems like all they did was fix the going vertical part.

The Iron Heel mission where you bomb the runway and then go 2v2 with SU-27s is a real nightmare when your AIM-54s are guaranteed to miss.

In a couple other forums, it was suggested to me to try setting the MLC filter to "OUT" when doing multiple TWS shots (or flying low enough that it does so automatcially).  I've been experimenting with manually turning it off, and so far I've not lost tracks on the trailer of a pair of bandits, as long as they are around 25k or higher (I'm launching from around 40k).  Now, why this would make any difference, I'm not sure, as these are AI bandits that are not attempting to notch in the first place.  Maybe the MLC causes a reduction in resolution when bandits are close together?  Or it's just a bug?

Either way, I will continue to experiment.

How do you turn MLC filter to out?

Posted (edited)

There is a Main Lobe Clutter, switch in the RIO cockpit, the out position is down. You can either switch to the back pit to flick it down or... Use quaggles to map it so that you can use it from pilot cockpit.

https://github.com/Quaggles/dcs-input-command-injector/releases/tag/1.0.11

-- MLC Commands
        {cockpit_device_id=devices.RADAR, down = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, value_down = 1, up = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, value_up = 0, name = _('MLC in else auto'), category = _('RIO Radar Control Panel')},
        {cockpit_device_id=devices.RADAR, down = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, value_down = -1, up = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, value_up = 0, name = _('MLC out else auto'), category = _('RIO Radar Control Panel')},
        {down = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, cockpit_device_id=devices.RADAR, value_down = -1, name = _('MLC out'), category = _('RIO Radar Control Panel')},
        {down = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, cockpit_device_id=devices.RADAR, value_down = 0, name = _('MLC auto'), category = _('RIO Radar Control Panel')},
        {down = device_commands.RADAR_DDD_MLC, cockpit_device_id=devices.RADAR, value_down = 1, name = _('MLC in'), category = _('RIO Radar Control Panel')},

Got to jump into the rear cockpit and flip the switch down to "out."  The MLC switch is on the left side of the top-front panel (where the DDD is).  There are apparently mods that let you do it (and other RIO stuff) from the front seat, but I'm not familiar with them.
