Ive got both TIR4 and TIR5 and I whilst I think the 5 is an improvement, it is more so for its aesthetics and build quality that sets it apart.

The v5 software is rubbish and I have reverted back to latest V4 as the zoom is just way to jittery and I tend to look like Marty Feldman after a few hours BS.( I tried for a full day to get it right, but it is a beta so where hoping it improves)

TIR5 with V4 software (latest build) works a treat and I do think it is a shade more smooth than TIR4 but its no massive leap like the hype on the NP website implies.

I needed an additional TIR devise for when I am working away so I bought TIR5 and it wasn't a massive premium over a TIR4 so Im happy but I would not say its something you should buy as a TIR4 replacement as its only a tad more smoother and is hardly noticable in BS, LOMAC or IL2 so that my two bobs worth ;0)

You might revisit the newest build of 5.0 software, as it has addressed the jitter on the Z axis. I would argue--and the feedback of the vast majority of our users seems to corroborate--that the new software, with most fixes in place now, is a much improved experience over 4.x. Obviously, all of our users are welcome to use whichever they prefer--it doesn't hurt our feelings--but I'd encourage you not to abandon the new software just yet. It isn't even out of beta. :) And, if properly set up with minimal smoothing, the TrackIR 5 outclasses 4 by a long ways. If you're inclined to use high levels of smoothing, this will be less apparent.

Just A little note Track IR software 5.0 final had some problems detecting any game.

I found the fix here:

OK, we have a working final version available for download. The previous final version was actually working correctly, but we had a portion of the code pointing to the wrong part of our server when it was building internally. Everything should be functioning normally now. smile Sorry to everyone for the inconvenience.

The version that is suppose to work is Final 5.0 B

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

What i find strange is that after using Track IR 5 Software for some time and open and closing the app for different sims it seems that the memory usage goes up with time.. almost like a memory leak.. but i will have to confirm and also you could test it to confirm..

It would be interesting to try Track-IR 5 with the latest Track IR 4 software to see the difference.

To put it simply, if you dont like it or cant run it, dont use it. Do some research BEFORE you buy it.
