What is the logic with the NWS button and heading hold ?

How is it different to simply flying the aircraft to wings level then engaging the AFCS ?  If wings are level shouldn't the heading be held anyway ?

So basically, when AFCS is engaged pushing the NWS button disables heading hold/wing leveling when the bank angle is less than 5 degrees. Is this correct?

According to the manual pushing the NWS button when AFCS is engaged  switches between heading hold and attitude hold.

I have to try that out. When attitude is more than 5° from wings level the heading mode should not activate. I wonder if it stays in attitude hold then.

Yes, That is my understanding. So allows you to "control stick steer" with bank angles < 5 degrees.

Yeah, so the Nose Wheel Steering button can be used to toogle between heading hold and attitude hold for <5 degrees of roll region. I recommend taking a look at the "Flight Controls" chapter in our manual: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/systems/flight_controls_gear/flight_controls.html for more AFCS details. Let me qoute the part about the NWS as I think it's a pretty good summary:

Quote

If the AFCS switch is engaged when the airplane is less than ± 5° from wings level, then the the airplane will maintain a wings level attitude, and will hold the engaged heading. When the nose gear steering button (on the stick grip) is pressed, heading hold drops out and attitude hold is available. Heading hold can be re-established by once again pressing the nose gear steering button. If the airplane attitude is greater than ± 5° from wings level when the AFCS switch is engaged, then the airplane will maintain the bank attitude at the time of engagement.

If you have any further questions, feel free 😉
