xavnl Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Hi, Maybe someone could help me here. I am stuck in this mode. I go into this mode from area or point track, I have the change in the crossair on the target acquired but I cannot unslew the crossair to another one. Long story short I cannot use the MMS slew input to slew the diamond over targets. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
monkie Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I had some issues when in PPT mode after storing a PPT, it didn't seem to act like when it was in FWD mode. I'm guessing it's getting a bit advanced into the sub sub modes. I still don't understand what the point of being in Area Track and then desginating multiple targets with boxes is. If you go Point Track it just deletes them as it is. I'm sure Casmo will deep dive that one day but for DCS it seems that Point track and shoot is all you truly need. It's rather difficult to notice if you're not sure what you're looking for, but the unit last designated in this mode will have a slightly thicker box. You can sequence this thick outline box through these boxed targets using the Frame Freeze/Target Select / HOG ON/OFF button. Pressing Point track will jump you to the target (and I believe if it's the first target in the series, will switch you to point track mode). From this point, you can press the Frame Freeze/Target Select / HOG ON/OFF button to select the next one (if none are selected) or the Point Track button to jump to the next in sequence. If for whatever reason there's no thick lines on any of the boxes, or if you are in point track mode (or 'Offset Acquire' mode), do the following: Return to Point Track mode if you are not in 'Offset Acquire' (OSET ACQ) mode or Area Track/'Acquire on the move' (ACQ OM) modes. Press 'Area Track' to enter 'Acquire on the move' (ACQ OM) mode. If the desired target is not boxed. designate the desired target by using the MMS slew to slew the diamond over it (the MMS will attempt to designate the moment you release the MMS slew). If necessary, press Frame Freeze/Target Select / HOG ON/OFF button, until the target is surrounded by the thicker box. Press Point Track to jump to that target. Note that any boxes/targets will be lost if: The currently point-tracked target is destroyed (bug?) The object moves behind another object that obscures it. The object ever leaves the current MMS field of view. 1
BlowTorch005 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I agree with xavnl, sometimes ACQ OM stops being able to be slewed. Not only that, offset also stops slewing too. It seems to be related to PPT mode, as soon as you go into it, those functions stop working. Two tracks attached, from the Caucasus Firing Range IA mission. The first one, kept in FWD mode, no problem at all. The second one, as soon as PPT is selected, no more slewing other than the MMS itself. It seems though if you cycle the MMS off and back, the ACQ OM mode seems to work again. Though you're right, it seems the Point track/Offset Acquire and Acquire on the Move both break when you go to select prepoint.

Hi, I managed to work it somewhat: MMS Manual -> Area Trk -> Diamond Slewing -> Box Up Targets Thicker TGT Box selection with MMS Frame FRZ/TGT Select button Point Trk to move the crosshairs to the Thicker TGT Box But I have the following issues: 1. The crosshairs (and hence laser impact point) is always above the TGT Box (see MMS screenshot) and so the HF flies over the target. How do I adjust the crosshairs directly onto the target in the box? The crosshairs can't be slewed in this state. 2. I also discovered that when slewing the diamond to your next target, you can't stop the slewing motion before it 'catches' the next target or the diamond disappears. Meaning your next target has to be roughly at 12, 3, 6, 9 o'clock from the diamond's start position in the crosshairs so you don't break the slewing action. The cursor always seems to go to the centroid of the box, and since the missile is raised, the box is quite tall. Think of it as trying to balance a bagel on your finger: the only good spot is where there's a hole. So, for these types of targets, you'll need to do so manually. 10 hours ago, GrEaSeLiTeNiN said: 2. I'm able to maneuver the diamond around a target as I have my slew bound to two thumbstick axes. That said, it should still work for slewing through a target to one on the other side, so long as you don't let up on the button.

Tried hitting regular vehicles (not tall SCUDs) and it was ok. My MMS slew unfortunately has to be a 4 way-hat. Works fine for LOS slew but a little tricky for ACQ OM.
