I'm following Chuck's guide and got a plane locked and 530's selected. I see the double circle so I'm pressing and holding Microb button...but nothing happens.

Can anyone see in my screenshot why I can't launch the missile?

Which command are you using to fire? Are you keeping it pressed for one second (more and less)?

i'm pressing the Microb button and holding it forever

The only odd thing in your screenshot is that G and D are not circled in the HUD:

That makes me think that despite the TIR indcation, the S P in the SNA and the P MIS in the PPA, somehow you don't have a valid firing solution.

I can't really tell if you're in PIC or PID radar mode; in theory, even if you're in PID, the radar should automatically switch to PIC holding the MiCRoB button (that's why I asked how long you were holding it), but I would try to shoot when already in PIC, just to rule out anything.

thanks for your reply. i'll try again and keep an eye out for the circles around the G and D. maybe the dot wasn't fully in the circle?

The missile autodirector doesn't have a very wide reception angle. You may be trying to shoot at a target which is too much on the side.
The dot/circle cue is computing the optimal interception angle but might not correct when the solution is outside the autodirector sensitivity cone.

Nothing to add here, just wanted to say it was cool to read a thread where ppl worked the problem, tried to come up with ideas/solutions, and no one's being an idiot... and it's not even my birthday! 🙂

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

IIRC there is no HUD display of that aside from the circle around the G and D telling you the missile is locked or not.

But a continuous 650 Hz tone will sound if the missile autodirector is locked, otherwise the tone will be a 650 Hz chopped at 1 Hz.

Usually you need to point the aircraft nose to the general location around the radar lock before firing the missile.
