Hey Everybody,

I just purchased a 4070ti and got it today and was doing some tests with it. So far it is doing fine with 80% Native rez and running 60Hz. I will post a pic of my settings but they are pretty high and it just runs perfect..

I am probally going to be tweaking for a bit just taking a break right now but so far it seems to be working well @60HZ and 80% rez of the Reverb G2..

Now I could try running 90 hz but I am thinking I will need to lower the rez quite a bit more but @ 80% ity does not look bad an I was using DLAA as well No DLSS..

I think the one thing holding this card back is the bus interface I thought it was higher but it is 192bit. I would imaging that is what holds it back from running more then 90FPS..

Also I am not running Motion Reprojection. if I did I would imagine I could definetely run 100% Rez. I just might try that and see what happens..

But since before I was running 30% the bump up to 80% is like worlds different and with the bump in settings it never looked better..

So for now the 4070Ti is performing better then I thought it would.  I also OC the snot out of it and got 3.045ghz on the core clcok and 700mhz more on the memory.. and the temp is about 72c which is fine.

so back to the tweaking and here are my system settings in DCS:

Shadows to High and Visibility to Ultra seem relatively demanding for very little gain Vs Shadows Low and Visibility High in my experience. You could maybe gain enough overhead to increase your resolution if you lowered them.

I run similar settings with a 3080ti and I hadn't thought to try DLAA & 80% resolution. I've been using DLSS & 100% but I'll give your setup a go, thanks

Yes I since redid my settings and I am on med for distance and I think I still am on High with shadows.. I will test the settings to see what the difference is in FPS..

And yes lowering the resolution does wonders for the FPS and @80% with DLAA it still looks very good IMHO YMMV..

Well it appears the DLAA is a very big hit in FPS, I was getting about -18FPS Less with it on, MSAA was not as bad but still high at 14FPS less..

I am looking to settle at 70% Rez in the G2 and 60Hz. I also have most of my settings on Med. now and it sill is able to maintain about 85-88FPS and ruuning at 60 Hz I can maintain butter smooth frames above 60FPS..

Looking for more might have needed a Super ti or 4080/90.. but this is good for me and I can keep a very nice looking game and more importantly it is smooth no mater where I am in the game or look..

iirc Global Cockpit Illumination is very resource hungry. With that off and shadows low I think you'll get much better frame times.

Any particular reason you don't want to use DLSS?

Hi Jive,

I tried DLSS and it looked wierd to me IDK maybe I'll give it another go.. I will need to check my Frametimes but they should be pretty good now but will need to see what they are and adjust from there .. thnx.. I will look into it..

EDIT: I will try thisagain as I thought to maintain 60fps I needed to keep FrameTime under 13.6 but it appears I was wrong and it is really 16.7ms FT.. so I will probally go even higher then my current settings as I was getting about 12.4ms FT.. so I am good up to probally 15 to keep it steady under 16.7ms..

Well I went back and reschooled myself about VR and the consensus seems to favor maintaining 90+FPS @ 90Hz. Well that is asking alot from DCS and my 4070Ti but I went ahaead and lowered the Resolution to 50% of the native rez of 4320.

Now with that I was able to maintain 90+FPS but probally barely as the Frametime was 10.2ms. maybe with a newer CPU I could squeeze a bit more FPS out of the 4070Ti but right now I will have to wait until I can upgrade the mobo and CPU..

It might be possible to run @4320Rez in the G2 with a 4090 but I still say it would be hard pressed to maintain 11.1ms FrameTime.. I think the 5080 would be what I need maybe a 5070ti Super lol!!

I will try running it @ 90hz but I hope we get some more VR Improvements as it still seems to need some work.. but they were saying running the lower Hz users can be more prone to nausea  and such things.. I don't think it looks too bad at 50% rez but I sure did like the 70% I was getting..

here are my new settings Specs in Sig and running a 4070Ti with a Reverb G2 @ 50% native rez..

The G2 has some annoying flickering at 60Hz. If it doesn‘t bother you or you don‘t see it at all, then just go for the 60Hz.
There are some claims out there, that refresh rates below 90Hz can lead to motion sickness. But again…if you don‘t get motion sickness at 60Hz…who cares.

When I still had the G2, I also tried 60Hz at the end and I was about to simply accept the flickering, because everything was so much smoother at 60Hz (because I could match it with 60FPS most of the time).

well I used to see the flicker when I 1st got the headset but now I dont notice it at all. I guess I am lucky in that regard but either way I am squeaking all I can out of the 4070 right now maybe I should have gotten the 4080super??

Uhm, well, if more performance was what you wanted, the 4080S would be an even bigger step up

But if you have the 4070ti now, I'd not take the step for the 4080S, but await the 50x0

Well I made a mistake on the 4070ti I thought it was a 256bit and thought that would be enough power, I was wrong. and you forgot to add yes it is a step up in performance and also a step up in price, I spent what I could.. and yes I currently have the 4070ti and might wait out the 5xxxx series..

I run 60hz too, I initially hated it and used 90hz with MR but now I'm used to 60 and don't see the flicker. Everyone has their own preferences with solutions to VR problems and there is no one size fits all fix. I like to retain as much resolution as I can so 60hz is good for that.

Playing with some custom fixed foveated rendering settings in OpenXR toolkit can really help here too

well having tweaked a bit I was able to get 80% Resolution in OpenXR and it looks real good. Plus I still have med/high settings and still get way under 16.6ms Frametime.. I could proablly run 100% but it gets too near the 16.6ms FT, and I like a little headroom in MP..

EDIT: IT appears the Frametimes are worse in the Kola map currently. I could set it too 100% rez and probally be fine. just when I switch back to Kola to turn down the rez..
