Hi,

I can't open the standard DCS comms in the missions and therefore can't do e.g. air-to-air refuelling, as I can't communicate with the tanker (no pre-contact etc.). Has anyone an idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks...

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately I have no idea what could cause this as there is no way it could be dissabled by the campaign.

Can you open the communication menu at all or just some part of it? Have you checked your key binding for it?

It might e that you have 'Easy Comms' checked in the options menu.

If you use the new DCS launcher, it sets this this every time you start (with no way to prevent it) and you have to uncheck it everytime once in DCS.

It is a bug and hopefully fixed in the next patch

Thanks, I unchecked the ‚easy comms‘ in the settings but unfortunately it didn‘t work. I also realized that I can open the comms menu while I am on the carrier but as soon as I am airborne and have to switch e.g. to the Tanker frequency (e.g. in mission 8, when you have to switch to ‚Shell‘) the comms menu doesn‘t work… Could this have something to do with the key binding (I changed the default key for the comms menu when I customized the settings for the F18)?…

It might have. At least don't use spacebar or backspace for any key binding as they are used for mission interaction.

Sounds a bit like traditional "comms" vs "push to talk" menu problem that new DCS players stumble upon on regular basis. If realistic comms is used, the former command ("\" key by default) works only on the ground/deck. After takeoff the latter must be used ("Alt + \" by default I think?). Mind you, it's called different in various airplanes, I don't own F-18 so don't know if its called PTT in that one. Of course, channels, freqs and whatnot must also be set correctly beforehand.

Almost for sure an issue of using COMMUNICATION MENU binding when it works on the ground but not in the air.  If you don't have EASY COMMS on (easy comms won't work in many missions) you have to use the "COMM Switch - COMM 1" and "COMM Switch - COMM 2" bindings (depending if you have the frequency tuned on COMM 1 or COMM 2) to pull up the menus in air (they actually work on ground too).

Thanks Art-J, it was exactly that. When I customized the key settings in the F-18, I couldn‘t find the ‚PTT‘ because it is named differently. But after watching a Grim Reaper video regarding this topic, I was able to implement the right setting. Thank you all for your help!
