Odd stutter and lagging issue in this campaign

nullHi,

I'm realy enjoying this campaign, but I'm encountering odd issue with performance. I've tried several flights in "same" conditions (= F-16 in Syria), but I only see this in this campaign :

Every 10'', it lags, which is really sad. See picture (left it remains flat and perfectly smooth in other flights, Right : mission in the Weasel camp : every 10' a lag.)

Already see that ?

Cheers

And you say this affects your experience?  The graph looks like that when you take a screenshot as well, so you can get the idea of what's going on there.  The CPU sometimes encounters a very large frame for whatever reason, CBU's going off, units spawning in, etc, and that happens every once in awhile as well.  That looks like a very healthy perf graph otherwise.

In fact, it affects my expriences, as I get a very short lag every 5'' (not 10''). It start at the very bigenning of each mission (with engine off!) and last to the end of the mission. Every 5'' I've got this peak and fps drop and I can clearly see it, which is really boring.

It drops enough for my eyes to catch it.

However, I must say, this is noticable on the ground. In the air, it's ok. It doesn't affect the ability to complete the mission.

Other missions (out of Weasel campaign), no problem: it runs very smoothly. I'm very happy with my DCS settings. And I get of course some lags by bomb dropping etc... but never have such a 5'' peak...

There's a lot going on in the campaign, probably more so in the background than in many others.  Latest update has made performance worse overall for lots of people, me included.  Is this just since the update or have you seen if before as well?

No idea. I bought the campaign after the latest big update.

But sure, there must be a continuous check that turn around every 5'', cause like I wrote, I have no problem with simple quick missions ie.

I've just reflown the mission 7 changing the max fps (see new pics)

Well, I suppose I have to deal with

Cheers and thanks for your help

If you have TACVIEW worth trying without as well, TACVIEW can be quite a drag on performance in heavy missions like these.

Tacview if OFF. I tried with Tacview uninstalled, but always the same issue. 5'' fps drop.

I flew in Syria with heavy scenery in F-16, no issue. Only in this campaign.

Am I the only one ?

I've not had many reports of poor performance for FIWOS, the missions are very heavy on units but since multi-threading came out these issues are much less common.  Any background scripts running?  The WINWING device scripts are quite notorious for dropping performance.

Actually, I can't complain about poor performance. I get 60 fps, which looks fine, but I experience fps drops to 28 every 5 seconds.

This issue is especially noticeable on the ground during taxiing. In the air, I have to look at the ground or clouds to see the brief freeze, so it doesn't really affect the overall experience.

When I create a similar environment (F-16 start from H4, lots of ground units), there's no problem. Other F-16 missions and campaigns or any other heavy campaigns also run smoothly.

This is why I suspect a routine code in the campaign.

But doen't sweat, if I'm the only one with this issue, I can deal with it 😉

BTW : my spec :
64 Gb RAM, 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, Intel Core i9 9900K @ 3.60GHz, Virpil Throttle CM3 and Warbd base + Mongoos T-50CM2

Well, after having cleaned DCS, turn off all mods, tested and tested again by starting a lot of missions (Reflected campaigns (quite heavy), my campaigns, Sedlo, etc...), I'm pretty confident that the issue comes from this campaign.

A bit boring because I don't know what to do to get ride off those 5'' stutters.

Another odd detail : the stutters continue even if the game is paused. But they appear only after I click on START.

Cheers!

Don't think you can to be honest at the moment, this current patch has lots of performance issues, its not great for anyone in heavy missions.

That's what's causing the issue, unit count is high on a bad patch for performance, theres no scripts running in the background.  Just got to wait it out until ED improve the performance.

Thanks for your help mate! 👌

I installed back the previous version of DCS 😃, and, except the 5'' stutter (which is less noticeable in this version), it runs smooth and so I can go on with this great campaign! I love it! 😍

Good news : I can reproduce the issue with another mission using Syrian Template.... I'll try to isolate the problem.

PROBLEM FOUND AND SOLVED!

Sorry guy for a bad pointing on your campaign, which I repeat is awsome...

The fault lies in a script (mentionned in OH-6A topic) : deleting is gunner_export_hook.lua and OH6GunnerDataExport.dll from folder script/hooks solved the issue.

I installed the OH-6A a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry for the time you wasted.

Awesome news, especially as I also observed a performance degradation apparently since the last DCS update. Can you share how you managed to isolate and identify the problem source? Were error messages in the log coinciding with the lag spikes or something else?

Well, I have a kind of diary where I write all modifications, add-on, update I apply to DCS. So, when I get an issue, I just have to go back to the previous install. I my case that was :

- May 5th, Install OH-6A

- July 7th,  DCS 2.9.6.58056 hotfix

So I first went back to DCS 2.9.6.57650... still 5'' bug

Then uninstall the OH-6A... bug solved.

But as I read that a lot of guys have a performance issue, I keep the 2.9.6.57650 version until the next update.

Cheers.

Hey Groundpounder,

sadly I have to report abysmal perfomance in the campaign as well. This is a second patch that gives me unplayable FPS, which didn't happen before.

I was trying to fly Mission 11 today with FPS as low as 8.

It's sad, because the campaign is great and I was very much enjoying it before last two patches.
Does ED knows about this performance issues?

Thanks, best regards
M.

Yes they do, a number of the campaign devs have raised it.  Some fixes were in today's patch, with more being worked on.  I've had some feedback already that things are better with today's update, if not yet back to where they are prior to last month.
