Squiggs Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 I recently (as in they came in the post today) got some Thrustmaster TPRs. It is the first ever set of pedals I have ever used and it is taking my brain some rewiring to learn to fly with my feet. When using them, am I supposed to keep my heels on the ground and use the balls of my feet on the actual pedals, or put the arch of my feet on the pedals and have my feet completely off the ground? I know this is a general helicopter question, but I'm asking it here because I'm using them mainly in the Huey.
Slippa Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Put em where it feels good. Make sure the rudder pedal (unit) is solid on the floor and isn’t gonna slip around. Same with whatever you’re sitting on but where you put your feet depends on the style of pedal and where you’re most comfortable. I’d say feet on pedals, heels off the floor but you may find a better way. You’ll get a better feeling of control with pedals and soon get used to it. Enjoy .
DishDoggie Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Slippa is right, Try what he said and do what you find works for you. I use the Feet off the floor in the Huey because I use MFG Crosswind pedals with the full size foot rests. I use the Toe Brake when I fly Fixed Wing and feet off the floor works better for me to use toe brakes that way. Congratulation on your new Gear you're going to love them.
British_Dragon_14 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Wearing thin trainers or slippers may help you when you are in the air off the toe brakes. It can be more comfortable to have your heels on the floor, rather than fighting your own leg weight when doing small movements. Force Feedback Rudders would be great some day! 1 https://YouTube.com/@British_Dragon-4k-Simulations?si=4JVEdAn0ughQyNj_?sub_confirmation=1 My YouTube Channel: British Dragon - Simulation Based Training 2 - YouTube Call sign: Albion 1-4| Dragon AKA British Dragon
Grievo Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Depends what you like. I tend to fly with balls of the feet on the pedals, heels on the ground. If you’re mainly flying helicopters, removing the centring springs will make life easier, as in real life anti torque pedals don’t feel like rudder pedals. Cubesim also make a damper for the TPR which is quite good. Having the heels on the ground without the centering force, means the heels act as a brake and help you keep in the correct pedal setting in the cruise etc. As for toe brakes, you’re not using them unless you’re taxiing, so generally I would only slide my feet up onto the pedals when in a situation I’m likely to use the toe brakes, the rest of the time my heels would be on the floor. Hope this helps. Edited January 5 by Grievo i7-9700F, 32Gb RAM, RTX 2080 Super, HP Reverb G2.
