I bought a new joystick just for this sim yesterday it is a "Logitech Extreme 3D Pro" very nice stick, "however" when I play in game mode the collective works with this stick but when I play in real mode it does not work and only uses keys Q and A. I went into settings to try to bind the up down plastic thingy but unlike the 12 buttons I cannot work out what the lever is called so I can assign it to up and down. Anyone have a lever and even better if someone has the same stick as me, have you managed to assign the lever to collective?

I went into options for game but strangely enough doesn't have a button allocated for collective but yet it works in game mode and not real, got me stumped. Help!:helpsmilie:

select "KA50 real" options from the dropdown on left hand side.

Select "axis commands" from the right hand box (highlighted in green)

Find the "flight control collective" axis box, look right untill you also see the column with your joystick (ie you should see Keyboard, then Logitech Extreme" or soemthing, then mouse etc..)

Double click on the box in the joystick column that corresponds to the collective row.

Move the Throttle axis on your joystick ... you should see "Joy_Z" or something similar appear

Did you select "All Axis"?

This is not explicitly documented, but you must be in "All Axis" for axies to be recognized.

EDIT: Ok, maybe "Axis Commands" :)

What nemesis said - you are playing in arcade mode ("game" keyboard options) - you expected to be playing real/sim ("real" keyboard options).

The option to enable real for the whole sime is in the options there - and

you'll get rid of the "game" methods / bindings.

Axis seems to work for "real" only, AFAIK.(?)

Thanks, your are correct it seems axis (or collective) only works in "real" only thing is I die rather quick in real, i can fly the chopper but most recently (before this post) my engines blew up, 1st the left then the right, that will teach me to keep the collective all the way up for to long. I guess those flashing lights and tones i should have took more notice.

Seems one cannot fly around all day with collective at 100%, (in my defence I was trying to reach 4000ft so as to fly over the mountains:huh: silly me)

4000 feet isn't a problem in any way and there is a serious problem in your setup if you cannot reach that. Did you set your engines to automatic? (PgUp twice if you used manual startup.) 4000 meters (which is what is displayed by standard in the Ka-50) is more difficult, but definitely doable. The thing is, you shouldn't be yanking collective to do that - just fly fast. Those wingstubs that the weapons are mounted on are actual aerofoils - they will give you lift if you get some airflow over them and dramatically improve your high-altitude capability.

Speed up to 200+ km/h and climb in a manner that allows you to maintain that speed.

Also, remember that the more fuel and weapons you are carrying, the heavier you are, and the greater the difficulty to climb to high altitude.

130 km/h is "best climb speed", I assume they meen you gain more feet pr. minute at 130. You can certainly go faster, alltough I'm not sure if you benefit from it.

And remember - look at IAS (speed at Shkval screen, on instrument panel).

The speed on the hud is Ground Speed.

Having said that, if you hold the Collective fully for a long period of time, the engines can and will overheat, and blow up . .

There are electronic governors that automatically reduce power to the engine if the Exhuast gasses get too hot (indicating the engines are working harder than is safe) ... if you have the EEG contrl on (which is mandatory!) , then you will see two yellow warnings come on in top right panel, this indicates the electronic governors are reducing power to help reduce the engine work...however, if you keep the engines running in this state, they can still over heat.

If you see the yellow warnings, you must reduce collective until they go off ... if needs be, this may also mean slowing down.

130km/h is fastest climb, but that's not only the speed causing that - it's the attitude at which you can maintain that speed while climbing.

I have found that on more extreme altitudes a higher velocity seems to help, but that is purely anecdotal.
