Jel Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 (edited) Some missions i´ve built for a realistic scenario, including the F10 map NOT showing units at all, sometimes not even your own position. So it´s just the map to be used for finding your data such as airfield headings, frequencies, etc. Missions usually used for navigation training or whatever you imagine. The thing is, having set the map to hide units, one can no longer view units in external view (F2). Making screenshots or just spectating isn´t as fun as it could be So i wondered: Can we get some future update NOT having external views dependent from the F10 map settings ? Maybe some kind of additional options for external views of friendly and/or enemy units ? Edited August 6, 2024 by Jel When in doubt - climb. Nobody ever collided with air. Vakarian Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Aren't those things already two separate options in the mission option screen? One is something along "Allow external views" and is a checkbox and another is a group of radio buttons which selects how much of the stuff is visible on the F10 map.
Nealius Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 This seems to work fine for me. I have groups marked as "hidden on map," but I can still cycle through them in F2 view.

Allow external views can be switched off - yes. What i´m referring to is the other way round: External Views are allowed but also on map settings i turn off own aircraft and / or allied units. Having done so, i cannot view those in external view - Pressing F2 just views my own aircraft. 1 When in doubt - climb. Nobody ever collided with air. Vakarian Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Ah, I see now. Yeah, if you have external views on, but map settings are on "map only", you cannot cycle other units in F2 or F3 view. However, you can cycle through them with F4 view. externalViews.trk 2

Nealius Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 For screenshots in this case, it would be better to use the track file. Open it in the mission editor, enable all the views, save, then replay the track. Now the external views are all unlocked.

I´m pretty sure we won´t have to go into detail on why tracks are NOT a good thing to use on longer missions When in doubt - climb. Nobody ever collided with air.
