LizardKingYB Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 While the cartridge starts one of the engines starts without a 'pop' sound.
Zabuzard Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Sorry, I am not sure I follow. Can you elaborate a bit? Cheers

Cheers The first engine (0:03) usually starts without a pop sound and another with (0:28). Sometimes, it is the opposite situation (the first one with this sound). I don't know how it is supposed to be, I kind of like this sound. I was wondering if it's ok.
Solution Zabuzard Posted August 12, 2024 Solution Posted August 12, 2024 Ah, thanks. It is supposed to pop each time you fire up a cartridge. Perhaps the DCS engine sucks up the voice file. Gonna investigate, thanks. 1

Rudel_chw Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 While on the cartridge cold start subject, @Diesel_Thunder has a great video that includes a lot of detail about where exactly the cartridges are mounted on the F4E: 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Diesel_Thunder Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 (edited) Thanks for the mention @Rudel_chw In the research for that video, I came across the full version of a Luftwaffe Phantom using cartridges on both engines. On the first one I don't hear an ignition pop at all, just a whooshing noise of it burning plus the whistle of the turbine starter spooling up, followed by the J-79 coming up to idle speed. Total time from cartridge ignition to idle speed is 29 seconds in the video. It may pop if you are up close to the jet (in the pilot seat or as the crew chief), but it seems that may be subtle compared to the sound of the cartridge burning This video was recorded in June 2013.
