All:

For the painting community, I really want to paint this bus of a helo but no template has been released.  So I made it for all to use.

In the below link, you will find PSDs with UV Maps and all marking recreated and in separate layers.  While this is not nearly the level of detail we see in official releases, it is a good start and the UVs are what matter imo.

There is also a test livery in there that I made while in the process creating the template.  This is only for testing and will not be uploaded to the user files.

Please note:  This template only covers the external of the aircraft.  I did include the helmet.

Hope this helps and cant wait to see what the community does with liveries!

I already posted to thank you for doing this but the cleaners have been round and wiped the forum. I didn’t see it again until later. Apologies to the cleaners. 🙂

Not being able to make any sense of the templates and skinning means numbnuts like myself rely on the community skinners and if needs be, ‘helpful template creators’ like yourself. So cheers fatty. 🙂

Would’ve been too sensible to release the template with the module. Early Access or not, once we can fly em we wanna tart em up as we like. People are bound to wanna skin em. For now, they can, well done.

Looking forward to the smell of the spray shop.

@IrishFatty Thanks for the great work! I'm moving along nicely on my livery.

Just one question. Is it normal that some PSD files do not include a Dirt layer?

As an example, the file for the bottom of the aircraft, tex05 have it's dirt layer but not tex07?

Cheers and thanks again!

Thank you for this. It was a huge help.

I found this module to be incredibly detailed. Every surface, nuts and bolts and rivet is textured - and there are hundreds and hundreds of them! This turned out to be a bit of a challenge for a dual tone paint scheme as I had to find the location of every rivet to match the paint (something admittedly is not complete yet.)

I just have one question; I could not find the texture file that contains the black wheels as I need to paint them with the base color. I searched all the pertinent texture files but did not find anything that resembled the wheel! Appreciate if anyone can point that to me.

To download this livery (if interested) see: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320065/

Ah, I thought it was only because I'm using Corel Photopaint instead of Photoshop. Yes, it would be nice to have the dirt layer in all psd files. I simply did not use that layer for the moment.

I agree about the challenge. Some textures were not easy to find even when colouring all files in different colors and labeling them. In fact, I still miss a few locations. Do you have an overwiew which bolt goes where to?

Unfortunately I can't help you about the wheels. I think tex18 is missing in the template. Maybe this would be the wheels?

No I did not label them. It's near impossible to do so. Way too many items. I use the coloring method to find the location. It's doable but very time consuming.

If you open the "TEXTURES" tab in the Model Viewer, it shows all the files that it opens for the loaded model and you can simply click on each line and visually see it. It did look at tex18 for sure (and every other file in ~\textures\ch-47f.zip file) but that is not it! In my dream, Model Viewer would support a feature such that when I click on any part of a model, it would tell me to which texture file it belongs to.

Yeah, I can confirm the "time consuming" part 😉 Oh, I wasn't even aware of the model viewer. Sorry to hear that the wheels texture can't be found 😞 It for sure would be a nice and helpful feature.

Maybe you can help me with one issue though since it looks like you managed to repaint the ribbon of the front side window. I want mine in red and I changed it in the following textures:

  • ch-47f_tex06_grn (left side)
  • ch-47f_tex10_grn (ribbon stuff)
  • ch-47f_tex11_grn (right side)

However, there must be something that still makes it look "wrong" as seen in the first screenshot (highlighted with light green). It looks like there's transparency in it.

I also attached a snipping of the texture 05 and 10.

Hmm, I actually did not change tex10 at all and left the Markings in tex11 as default, and I am fine with how it looks since rubbers are usually black. If you download my livery, you can see and compare with yours.

if somebody has to change the color of a specific bolt...maybe those screenshots are of help to you (click on screenshot to enlarge).

  • 01.jpg right side back
  • 02.jpg right side front
  • 03.jpg left side front
  • 04.jpg left side back
  • upper part of texture file ch-47f_tex04_grn

It's not complete / I did not label all nuts/bolts, but it may safe some time to some people.

Unfortunately, some bolts use the same texture part. That makes it impossible to use the correct color for all bolts with a complex livery.

It was a mistake in the description.lua in the template. It ignoredch-47f_tex10_grn because the line 66/67 was:

-- ch-47f_tex10
    {"ch-47f_tex10", 0, "ch-47f_tex10",    true};

Change to

-- ch-47f_tex10
    {"ch-47f_tex10", 0, "ch-47f_tex10_grn",    false};

This way, texture 10 from the template is also being taken into account.

Not sure if the colour is the same as the olive one defaulted, Yes the roundel and they EI **** number under the rear engine gondola and ESERCITO (that mean ARMY) near the rear back ramp.

Should be as a start, pretty sure ED is preparing a full set of liveries for the chinook. 🙂

Thank you!!!

Really appreciated!!!
