=Mac= Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Perhaps I misunderstand what the override does. But I thought it would allow maximum flight performance. I timed the roll rate with it off and on. It was slower with it on. What am I missing? (Clean wings, 400 kts, about 6,000 AGL, full internal fuel, I was trying to emulate the Blue Angels' rapid aileron roll.) The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
Tholozor Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 (edited) The GAIN ORIDE switch is used to maintain predictable controllability in the event of AoA sensor or pitot-static failure (not necessarily FCS failure). Depending on the position of the flaps switch, it sets control surfaces to predetermined, fixed values to improve handling under specific conditions. =Mac= Posted August 15, 2024 Author Posted August 15, 2024 Okay. Thanks. So the override switch isn't going to help with getting a rapid aileron roll in the Hornet. Is the flight dynamics, then, not realistic compared to the Blue Angels roll rate? The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
Tenkom Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 The roll rate varies greatly with airspeed. Around 400kts it rolls quite quickly. Do you have a video where the blue angels do a fast roll?
