After watching video tutorials, reading both manuals and flight testing (latest BS3), these self notes are what I understand about Flight Director Mode. Let me know if there are corrections. With regard to the altitude deviation scale (bottom right), the manuals seem to show the caret in the opposite direction to the Altitude Director bars, which is contrary to my test observations as shown in the HUD below.

Hey mate here might be something.
Altitude director and bars are indicating the initial altitude when the hold was turned on. I’m pretty solid that they don’t show vertical separation to the steering point, even if the route mode is on. To be fair, I usually don’t have the route mode set due to INU inaccuracy so I might be wrong.

the dimond on the course band indicates trimmed course not necessarily desired, or when nav/waypoint is activated the desired course. So it’s a conditional display.

well done keep the work up in the shark. It’s the best helo in DCS wool woop. 🙂

Was a while ago when I was testing this and trying to figure out what was going on. As I recall, the vertical bars lengthen according to how much you veer from the altitude at which altitude hold was last activated. It’s not indicating vertical deviation from steer point. Yeah, the diamond is conditional, I guess that’s why I indicated it as desired heading slash waypoint.

I think what’s important is to also know that IRL the name Flight Director is used to have the autopilot tell you what it would do without doing it. So in this case, it is telling you it would change altitude or heading a certain way if hold modes were on but isn’t. And the dampening in the background is just to help you
